The Role

Set clinical standards, ensure regulatory compliance and survey readiness, lead quality improvement, oversee staffing and retention, manage nursing leadership teams, monitor clinical outcomes and risk, and resolve high-level clinical and operational escalations.
Summary Generated by Built In

A well-established healthcare organization in the New York metropolitan area is seeking a senior clinical executive to join its nursing leadership team at a pivotal level of operational oversight. The organization delivers a comprehensive continuum of post-acute and long-term care services for medically complex populations, with a strong emphasis on clinical excellence, regulatory integrity, and sustained quality outcomes. With a long-standing presence in the region, the organization is recognized for its disciplined operational structure, commitment to continuous improvement, and leadership culture grounded in accountability, collaboration, and patient-centered care.

This is an executive-level nursing leadership opportunity for a highly experienced Director of Nursing who operates comfortably at both the strategic and operational level. The role carries full responsibility for nursing operations, clinical governance, and workforce performance within a complex care environment. The successful candidate will be expected to lead through influence and structure—setting clinical standards, driving measurable quality improvements, ensuring consistent survey readiness, and building high-performing nursing teams. This is not a purely administrative role; it requires an executive presence, strong decision-making capability, and the ability to lead through complexity while maintaining absolute focus on outcomes, compliance, and culture.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide executive-level leadership and oversight of all nursing operations
  • Establish and enforce clinical standards, policies, and systems of care delivery
  • Ensure consistent regulatory compliance and sustained survey readiness across all units
  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable nursing leadership and frontline management teams
  • Drive organization-wide quality improvement initiatives and clinical performance metrics
  • Oversee staffing strategy, workforce planning, and retention initiatives within nursing
  • Partner with interdisciplinary and executive leadership teams to align clinical and operational goals
  • Monitor, analyze, and act on clinical outcomes, risk indicators, and performance trends
  • Lead regulatory inspections, audits, and corrective action planning as needed
  • Serve as a key decision-maker in resolving high-level clinical and operational escalations
Qualifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
  • Minimum 2–3 years of recent experience in a Director of Nursing or senior nursing leadership role within skilled nursing or long-term care
  • Proven executive-level leadership experience in a facility-based healthcare environment
  • Strong command of regulatory frameworks, compliance standards, and survey processes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large teams through performance improvement and operational change
  • Experience driving clinical outcomes, quality initiatives, and workforce stability at scale
  • Strong executive presence with excellent communication and organizational leadership skills
  • Background in post-acute, rehabilitation, or long-term care strongly preferred
Compensation:
  • $200,000 base salary based on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid time off (PTO) and holiday benefits
  • Full executive-level healthcare benefits package
  • Long-term leadership growth opportunity within a stable and established healthcare organization
