The Director of the Nursing Laboratories and Simulation Centers is responsible for the operations of both learning centers. This role oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of high-fidelity simulation and clinical skills training for nursing students at the Passaic and Sussex campuses. The Director will also ensure alignment with academic goals, accreditation standards, and best practices in healthcare education. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Nurse Education.
This is a full-time, administrative position.
Example of Duties:
- Provide direction for the Nursing Laboratories and Simulation Centers on both Passaic and Sussex campuses
- Manage the centers' day-to-day operations.
- Supervise, schedule and evaluate part-time laboratory staff.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and safety protocols for the Lab.
- Coordinate the setup, operation and debriefing of simulation experience.
- Ensure equipment and software are updated and functioning properly.
- Supervise, evaluate and document the progress of students performing nursing skills required in nursing courses.
- Coordinate purchasing and maintenance of equipment and supplies for laboratories within the confines of established Nursing budget.
- Collaborate with Nurse Education faculty to integrate simulation-based learning into curricula.
- Facilitate faculty training in simulation pedagogy and technology use.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards (ACEN), regulatory requirements (NJBON), and best practices in Lab and Simulation education (INACSL, LAERDAL).
- Attend Nurse Education Program meetings.
- Ensure simulation and laboratory activities support course objectives, clinical requirements, and program learning outcomes.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of simulation experiences in achieving student learning outcomes and clinical competencies.
- Participate in curriculum planning, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate laboratory scheduling for classes, simulations, skills practice sessions, and skills/ simulation demonstrations.
- Manage staffing assignments and ensure adequate laboratory coverage to support program needs.
- Prepare, submit, and track purchase orders for laboratory supplies, equipment, technology, and educational resources.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and simulation materials.
- Coordinate with the Associate Dean of Nursing on the procurement of equipment, supplies, and technology necessary for laboratory operations.
- Establish and maintain relationships with approved vendors.
- Ensure proper maintenance, repair, and replacement of simulation equipment and technology.
- Collaborate with faculty to support student learning, clinical preparation, and program success.
- Meet regularly with the Associate Dean of Nursing to discuss laboratory operations, staffing, budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and program needs.
- Provide updates and recommendations to the Associate Dean regarding laboratory performance, equipment needs, staffing concerns, and operational improvements.
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean to support departmental goals, accreditation requirements, student success initiatives, and continuous quality improvement efforts.
- Generate reports and maintain records related to laboratory utilization, staffing, budgets, equipment, supplies, and program outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in nursing required. Doctoral degree in nursing or related field preferred.
- Current RN License in New Jersey required.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in nursing in direct patient care required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in simulation-based education and college skill laboratory management required.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
- Must be Certified as a Simulation Educator.
The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.
Compensation: Salary is determined by a variety of criteria, including but not limited to, previous relevant experience, education level, and certifications. The salary range for this position is $80,000-$95,000.
