POSITION SUMMARY: This position manages nursing services in a primary care clinic setting and ensures that patient flow is maintained in an efficient and quality manner. Assignment to clinics in Farmington or Cuba also includes supervision of laboratory operations and staff.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the recruitment, hiring and supervision of nursing staff.  Completes monthly nursing work schedule and approves leave requests for staff.  Supervises patient appointment scheduling, coordinates patient flow and monitors clinic productivity.  Supervises ordering medical supplies, performs routine nursing duties, including managing the triage of patients, if necessary. Performs special medical procedures under direction of providers.  Provides orientation and ongoing training for nursing staff in clinic policies, procedures and protocols.  Performs Health Promotion Disease Prevention audits and other activities related to Primary Care Effectiveness Review compliance. Provides patient health education and coordinates health education outreach programs, assist in development and implementation of quality improvement and risk management activities, assists in development of budget and shares accountability for nursing program, coordinates and participates in the clinic’s in-service education sessions.  Assures coordination of nursing department duties with other clinic departments.  When required oversees laboratory services including Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) waived tests and supervises laboratory staff.  If assigned to serve as infection control committee chairperson or co-chairperson, ensures clinical site’s adherence to the PMS infection control plan, manages the infection control committee and serves as a site resource for infection control activities including, hand and respiratory hygiene, personal protective equipment, infection safety and surveillance, and environment and medical equipment cleaning.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Minimum two years’ nursing experience in a clinical/medical setting required.
  • Minimum two years’ supervisory experience required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish / English) or (Navajo / English) preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • License to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in New Mexico. Must obtain licensure by date of hire and maintain current throughout employment.
  • Have or be able to obtain BLS/CPR or ACLS certification within 30 days of hire. If you are assigned to a center with ACLS medications and/or equipment, you must have ACLS certification within 30 days of hire. Certification must meet the requirements listed in the document “BLS / CPR / ACLS & First Aid Training Resources” posted on Staurolite. It is your responsibility to keep your certification current at all times.

According to PMS Human Resources Policy 205.006, “Healthcare Personnel Testing & Immunization Requirements,” this position must comply with required testing and immunizations. 

  • Testing and immunizations including TB, Hepatitis B (consent or waiver), Tdap, MMR, and Varicella, will be available at the employee’s PMS health center. Influenza vaccines will be required according to dates set by the CDC and NMDOH.

Skills Required

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing
