Job Responsibilities & Requirements

The Director, North America Operations Finance & Controller is responsible for leading accounting, manufacturing FP&A, and fixed asset management across the United States and Canada. This position serves as the finance strategic business partner to Supply Chain and Manufacturing and executive leadership while ensuring financial integrity, accurate reporting, effective internal controls, and actionable business insights.

The Director will oversee month-end close activities, manufacturing financial planning and analysis, capital investment governance, fixed asset accounting, and financial support for operational decision-making. The role will lead a team of finance and accounting professionals who support 10 manufacturing plants and play a critical role in driving profitability, operational efficiency, and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Lead accounting activities for North American manufacturing operations, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including general ledger ownership of the manufacturing P&L & balance sheet accounts, account reconciliations, journal entry approvals, and balance sheet reviews.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis for business and finance leadership.
  • Maintain strong internal controls.
  • Partner with Corporate Accounting on complex accounting matters, policy implementation, and compliance initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, standardization, and automation.
  • Serve as a key stakeholder and business process owner for finance-related systems and data governance, partnering with IT and cross-functional teams to maintain data accuracy, optimize system performance, and support ongoing business transformation initiatives.

Manufacturing FP&A

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and monthly financial performance reviews for manufacturing operations.
  • Partner with plant leadership to analyze operational performance, including material, labor, overhead and freight productivity and cost variances.
  • Provide actionable insights on revenue, margins, manufacturing costs, inventory, and working capital.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational dashboards.
  • Support strategic initiatives, including footprint optimization, productivity programs, and capital investments.
  • Lead financial analysis of operational risks and opportunities and recommend corrective actions.
  • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Plant Leadership to plan, execute, and monitor annual and cycle count inventory programs. Evaluate inventory accuracy, investigate significant variances, ensure timely resolution of discrepancies, and assess financial statement impacts.

Fixed Assets & Capital Management

  • Oversee fixed asset accounting and reporting for North America.
  • Establish governance processes for capital expenditures, project approvals, capitalization, depreciation, and asset retirements.
  • Partner with Operations to evaluate capital investment proposals and expected returns.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies related to fixed assets and lease accounting.
  • Monitor capital spending against approved budgets and provide regular reporting to leadership.

Business Partnership & Strategic Support

  • Act as a trusted advisor to Manufacturing, Operations, Commercial and Finance leaders.
  • Provide financial leadership for major business initiatives, acquisitions, system implementations, and process transformations.
  • Support pricing, cost reduction, productivity, and margin improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency, and cash flow performance.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Establish clear objectives and accountability for key team members.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and business partnership.
  • Promote strong financial acumen throughout the organization.
  • Ability to effectively delegate responsibility while empowering team members to make decisions and assume greater ownership.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience within manufacturing, industrial, or operational finance environments. Ability to translate financial data into operational insights.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or multi-site operations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and business partnering skills.
  • Proven track record of leading change, improving processes, and influencing cross-functional stakeholders to achieve business objectives.
  • Strong strategic thinking and foresight with the ability to anticipate business needs, assess financial implications an develop actionable solutions.

Preferred

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA.
  • Experience with SAP or other large ERP systems.
  • Experience leading finance functions within a multinational organization.
  • Knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, and manufacturing performance metrics.
  • Experience supporting operations across both the United States and Canada.

Additional Requirements

Ability to travel up to 20% to support manufacturing sites, business reviews, and operational initiatives across North America.

This role is primarily office-based but may require periodic access to manufacturing facilities, including exposure to standard factory conditions such as noise, temperature variation, machinery, and other operational environments.
