The Role

About this role

BlackRock Aladdin Data is entrusted with maintaining all data integral to the investment decision process for BlackRock the house and our Aladdin® and eFront® platforms.  Data is at the heart of Aladdin and increasingly the ability to consume, store, analyze and gain insight from data has become a key component of our competitive advantage.

The Private Markets Data Governance and Master Data Management team, a part of our Private Data Services (PDS) organization, is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and reliability of private markets data for the Aladdin and eFront communities.

We are seeking a Director to lead the Insight Master Data Management (MDM) team, with team members located across Belgrade, Bangalore and Birmingham. This leader will be responsible for the people, processes and operating model supporting master data across the Insight platform and will play a critical role in scaling and evolving our MDM capabilities.

The successful candidate will combine strong people leadership with deep data-management expertise and an operational mindset. They will be responsible for ensuring that master data is accurate, consistent and delivered reliably, while continuously improving how the team operates as the business and platform evolve.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead the Insight MDM organization
  • Lead and develop a globally distributed team of MDM professionals.
  • Create a strong, connected team culture with clear accountability, priorities and development opportunities.
  • Build MDM expertise within the team and develop leaders who can effectively manage day-to-day delivery.
  • Establish clear operating rhythms and ensure effective collaboration across locations.
  • Own MDM service delivery
  • Provide leadership and oversight for master data onboarding, standardization, maintenance and delivery across eFront Insight.
  • Establish effective controls and quality checks across MDM processes and address recurring data-quality or operational issues.
  • Ensure the team can effectively support onboarding, business-as-usual operations, integrations and migrations.
  • Define and monitor service expectations and use metrics to identify opportunities to improve quality, timeliness and scalability.
  • Drive transformation and scale
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and automate MDM processes and reduce manual intervention.
  • Develop scalable operating models that allow the team to support business growth without sacrificing data quality.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to evolve MDM capabilities, workflows and supporting technology.
  • Translate operational pain points and data requirements into clear priorities for process and technology improvements.
  • Champion the use of data, AI, technology and automation to continually improve how MDM services are delivered.

What you need

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
  • Significant experience in master data management, data operations, data management or a related discipline, ideally within financial services.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams, preferably across multiple locations.
  • Strong understanding of MDM concepts including entity mastering, data standardization, data quality, matching/deduplication, hierarchy management and data controls.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business requirements and operational challenges into scalable solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and improve operational processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across Product, Engineering, Operations and senior management.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a complex, global organization and balance strategic priorities with operational execution.

Good to have

  • Experience with private markets, alternative assets or financial-services data management.
  • Experience with large-scale data transformation, platform migration or data integration initiatives.
  • Familiarity with SQL, Python, Power BI or other data-analysis and automation tools.
  • Experience applying automation, machine learning or AI to data-management problems.
  • Experience working with globally distributed teams.

What We Do

As the world’s largest asset manager, BlackRock partners with investors around the globe to help them (and those on whose behalf they invest) plan for life’s most important goals – like retirement, home ownership and their children’s education. Our clients range from governments, foundations and other large institutions to those investing on behalf of individuals, including firefighters, nurses, teachers and factory workers. BlackRock was founded with the idea of creating a better asset management firm — one that was purpose-driven, focused on clients and risk management, and propelled by data and technology. Our breakthrough Aladdin® platform is BlackRock’s technological backbone, helping investors see and manage their whole portfolios in one place – from constructing investments to monitoring risk and executing trades. Used by hundreds of external institutions around the world, Aladdin combines powerful analytics and a common language to help investment teams make faster, more informed decisions across public and private markets. It’s a key part of our business and one of the reasons we’re trusted to manage more assets than any other investment manager today. At BlackRock, we challenge conventions and raise the bar for what’s possible. We harness technology to unlock new solutions, simplify complexity, and deliver investment strategies that meet people where they are. Whether it’s retirement planning, wealth building or navigating market shifts, we’re here to help clients invest more easily, more affordably and with more choice as we chart a path toward financial well-being together.
