Job Summary

Barings’ Global Client Operations team has a director level opening for a motivated individual who would like to join our team of financial professionals. This individual will be responsible for oversight of MassMutual’s portfolio of Partnership investments.  The individual will be expected to provide support to both internal clients and directly to MassMutual. The candidate will be expected to interact with all business and investment support teams across Barings as a majority of business lines will at times invest into Partnerships on behalf of MassMutual.  The ideal candidates will have broad accounting expertise as well as be knowledgeable of operational best practices.  Our teams consist of highly skilled CPAs, MBAs, and CFAs who are expected to provide accurate, timely, and efficient services.  This individual will be responsible for the following areas:

 Primary Responsibilities

  • Build out private equity operational platform directly impacting MassMutual GIA and subsidiaries.
  • Act as point person for MassMutual BA Asset Accounting for ad hoc and/or management requests. Provide prompt responses by researching internally or working with appropriate Barings internal teams.
  • Develop tracking analysis for Audited Financial Statements and K-1 submissions to MassMutual BA Asset Accounting team on a monthly basis. Provide responses to inquiries for instances where validity to statutory guidance arise.
  • Work with MassMutual BA Asset Accounting on their custody locations for investments and how it relates to applicable Barings investment teams and tits correlation to Barings Ops teams and applicable documents to be used for true ups impacting STAT and GAAP accounting.
  • Coordinate key period end deliverables for MassMutual and subsidiaries as it relates to monthly and quarterly reports: manage timing and answer questions on investment presentation and how it impacts transactions booked by accountants.
  • Primary contact as part of an ongoing MassMutual remediation initiative. Review requests and provide responses based upon researching information available and follow up with responsible Baring parties as needed. Provide responses to any follow up questions – activity and LPA terms impacting accounting.
  • Provide monthly acquisitions and dispositions activity along with supporting documentation to MassMutual to be used cost roll forward. Prior to submission to MassMutual validate activity is complete and accurate.
  • Work with Barings Operations to identify improvement opportunities on an ongoing basis and its impact to MassMutual.  Ensure consistently effective and efficient operating model.
  • Contact for unidentified cash posting private equity settlement account. Requires tracking down possible investments, reviewing transaction activity, and tying back to unidentified amount. Provide support and explanation how support agrees to the unidentified cash.
  • Prepare non-admit analysis to be shared with MassMutual that can be used to identify areas to be addressed and validate quarterly calculation.  Ensure proactive management of non-admit issues on a go forward basis. 
  • At times may perform shadow accounting over MassMutual’s partnership interest in Barings managed funds.
  • Direct support for MassMutual’s monthly and quarterly close process
  • Manage and monitor the timing and quality of client deliverables including oversight and review of certain client reports (daily and monthly).  Direct interaction with technology support in production/automation of deliverables.
  • At times will be asked to manage workflow for capital calls and distributions
  • Work effectively with third party service providers, as necessary
  • Work closely with investment teams
  • Interact with senior management, portfolio management team and investment analysts
  • Proactively communicate and coordinate with various internal groups
  • Interact with pricing team on valuations and price analysis
  • Ad hoc reports as needed

 Qualifications

  • 10+ years of investment accounting experience (public accounting experience is a plus)
  • Experience in investment operations and controls documentation is preferred.
  • Project management skills with attention to detail and proven ability to multi-task
  • MBA degree in Accounting (CPA designation is a plus)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience and confidence with communicating, influencing, and presenting data and responses.
  • Working knowledge of Excel & Word essential, Investran & eFront experience is a plus
  • Prior track record in building partnerships with leaders
  • Able to garner support and gain momentum to bring recommendations through implementation
  • Demonstrate accountability and commitment
