We are looking for an experienced and strategic Director of Marketing & Communications to help tell our story, strengthen our brand and expand the reach and impact of our work.
The Director of Marketing & Communications will lead the development and implementation of The Food Trust’s comprehensive communications and marketing strategy. Working across the organization to elevate our brand, engage key audiences and support priorities including fundraising, program growth, partnerships, advocacy, thought leadership and fee-for-service opportunities.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and lead integrated communications and marketing strategies aligned with organizational priorities and goals.
- Strengthen The Food Trust’s brand, messaging, positioning and visibility locally, regionally and nationally.
- Develop audience-focused campaigns that increase awareness, engagement, participation and support.
- Lead media and public relations efforts, including cultivating media relationships, responding to inquiries and identifying opportunities to showcase The Food Trust’s expertise and impact.
- Oversee the development of compelling print and digital content, including newsletters, publications, reports, website content, email communications, social media, presentations and marketing materials.
- Provide strategic oversight of The Food Trust’s website, Online Learning Hub and other digital platforms.
- Use digital and marketing analytics to evaluate performance, understand audience engagement and continuously improve communications strategies.
- Partner with Development to support fundraising, donor engagement, sponsorships and campaign communications.
- Collaborate with program teams to develop marketing strategies that increase awareness, participation and program growth.
- Support senior leaders and subject matter experts with messaging, presentations, talking points, media interviews and other high-impact communications.
- Lead and support the Marketing and Communications team, establishing priorities, expectations and opportunities for professional growth.
- Manage communications vendors, consultants and external partners, including scopes of work, timelines, budgets and deliverables.
- Balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution of key communications and marketing initiatives.

What You Bring
We’re looking for a collaborative, strategic communications leader who can see the big picture while also successfully moving projects from strategy to execution.
You’ll bring:
- 8–10 years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field, including demonstrated leadership experience.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; a graduate degree in a related field is preferred.
- Strong experience developing and implementing integrated communications and marketing strategies across multiple audiences and channels.
- Exceptional writing, editing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complex topics into clear and compelling content.
- Experience with brand strategy, audience development, messaging and integrated marketing campaigns.
- Experience using communications, digital and marketing analytics to measure performance and inform strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects and deadlines while coordinating across teams and external partners.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills, including the ability to coach and develop staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, senior leaders, partners, media and other stakeholders.
- Experience with digital communications and marketing tools, including website content management systems, email marketing, social media management and analytics platforms.
- Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization is strongly preferred.
- Experience with donor databases or CRM systems is preferred; familiarity with Salsa is a plus.
