For 50 years, Hillcrest has helped individuals, families, and young adults move from homelessness to self-sufficiency. We are looking for a communications leader who can help us tell that story powerfully while expanding our reach to donors, volunteers, community partners, thrift store customers, and the communities we serve.
Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, this position supports the entire Hillcrest organization, including our housing programs, fundraising and development efforts, volunteer initiatives, special events, community partnerships, and two Hillcrest Thrift Stores.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced marketing professional who enjoys both strategy and execution. You won’t simply manage the Hillcrest brand; you’ll help shape how our community understands and connects with our mission.
What You’ll Do· Lead Hillcrest’s overall marketing, communications, branding, public relations, and digital strategy.
· Develop compelling stories about Hillcrest residents, programs, volunteers, donors, partners, and community impact.
· Manage Hillcrest’s social media, websites, email marketing, digital campaigns, newsletters, and other communications.
· Partner closely with the Development team on fundraising campaigns, donor communications, sponsorships, and special events.

· Develop press releases, media pitches, talking points, and relationships with local media.
· Own photography, video, graphic design, advertising, print materials, signage, and other creative projects.
· Partner with outside vendors when needed for special event, media, or any website rebuild needs.
· Protect and strengthen the Hillcrest brand across all programs, locations, events, and communication channels.
· Work alongside organizational leadership to identify opportunities, address communication needs, and strengthen Hillcrest’s visibility throughout the Kansas City community.
· Track results and use analytics to continually improve marketing and communications efforts.
What We’re Looking ForWe’re looking for someone who is both a big-picture thinker and a hands-on communicator.
The ideal candidate will bring:
· 5–7+ years of progressively responsible marketing, communications, public relations, or related experience.
· Outstanding writing, editing, storytelling, and verbal communication skills.
· Demonstrated experience developing and executing successful marketing and communications strategies.
· Strong knowledge of social media, digital marketing, websites, email marketing, and analytics.
· Experience managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
· The ability to work collaboratively with leadership, staff, donors, volunteers, board members, community partners, media, and vendors.
· Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Nonprofit, fundraising communications, media relations, graphic design, photography/video, and retail marketing experience are highly valued.
Who Will Thrive HereYou’ll thrive at Hillcrest if you’re someone who sees a great story and immediately starts thinking about how to share it.
You can move comfortably from a leadership strategy meeting to writing a donor story, planning a social campaign, promoting a thrift store event, working with the media, or helping create the next major fundraising campaign.
You’re creative, collaborative, organized, curious, and willing to roll up your sleeves.
Most importantly, you understand that great marketing isn’t simply about getting attention; it’s about moving people to care, engage, give, volunteer, shop, advocate, and become part of something meaningful.
Why Hillcrest? At Hillcrest, your work has a purpose.
