Director of Manufacturing - Stamping Specialty
Job Summary:
As Director of Manufacturing, you will play a pivotal role in leading our integrated manufacturing teams. You will oversee production operations, process optimization, engineering initiatives, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure efficient, high-quality output and continuous improvement. The Director of Manufacturing is responsible for leading and optimizing all manufacturing operations, with a strong emphasis on progressive stamping, continuous improvement, machine design automation, and beginning-to-end production efficiency. This role oversees engineering, project management, and supply chain functions, particularly focused on steel sourcing and utilization. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in mechanical engineering with strategic leadership to drive operational excellence, innovation, and cost-effective production.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement manufacturing and engineering strategies, plans, and procedures, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets are consistently met or exceeded.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve productivity, reduce waste, and optimize throughput.
- Oversee all manufacturing operations including the progressive stamping operations, including die design, maintenance, and production efficiency.
- Direct mechanical engineering and machine design initiatives to support new product development and process improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and implement custom manufacturing equipment and automation solutions.
- Ensure robust design-for-manufacturing (DFM) practices are applied across all programs.
- Lead complex, cross-functional projects from concept through production launch
- Establish timelines, budgets, and resource plans; ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
- Continuously work to improve the sourcing, procurement, and inventory strategy for steel and related raw materials and finished goods inventory.
- Develop strong supplier relationships to ensure cost competitiveness, quality, and supply continuity.
- Monitor market trends and mitigate risks related to pricing, availability, and logistics.
- Implement KPIs and performance metrics to monitor plant performance.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational discipline.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental requirements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team across manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain functions.
- Foster a collaborative and results-driven culture.
- Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
- Manage the design of stamping dies for high volume progressive complete dies.
- Set comprehensive goals for operational efficiency, product quality, and business growth.
- Drive automation, process improvement, and optimization of manufacturing workflows and systems (e.g., SAP, MES).
- Optimize resource utilization and working capital to meet production targets and deliver on time to customers.
- Establish and enforce policies and procedures that promote a culture of safety, quality, and innovation.
- Oversee day-to-day manufacturing and engineering operations, including production planning, equipment maintenance, and technical support.
- Lead, motivate, and inspire teams of engineers, technicians, and production staff.
- Analyze and interpret operational data and metrics; create management reports and dashboards.
- Maintain strong, positive relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, and vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial, or related field).
- Extensive experience with progressive stamping and tooling operations.
- Strong background in machine design and mechanical systems.
- Proven track record in project management and successful program execution.
- Experience managing steel supply chains, including procurement and supplier negotiations.
- 8+ years of experience in manufacturing and/or engineering operations.
- 3+ years of leadership experience managing cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated experience with process improvement, automation, and KPI management.
- Strong business acumen and results-driven mindset.
- Experience with Stamping.
- Experience with the manufacturing of Steel products.
- Deep technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and mechanical engineering principles.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and cost optimization.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in high-volume or precision manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and their integration to drive performance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Results-oriented with a focus on innovation and efficiency.
- Proven cross-functional collaboration and rapid improvement ownership.
- Experience in procurement and high-level negotiations is a plus.
