The OpportunityAs Director of Legal, you will be Courier Health's first dedicated legal hire, reporting directly to the CFO. You will build the legal infrastructure that lets a high-growth Series B company operate smoothly and serve as a trusted strategic resource for leadership.
What You'll BuildLegal infrastructure that scales. Evaluate, strengthen, and expand the frameworks, templates, and processes that let Courier Health manage its legal affairs without slowing down. From commercial agreements to data processing addenda, you would ensure that the right structures exist and that they're adopted by teams.
Cross-functional partnership. Partnering across the organization to help navigate key decisions. You will be asked to be present, practical and decisive, setting up legal to be an accelerant, not a bottleneck, to decision-making.
Strategic risk judgment. Serve as a sounding board for the CFO and executive team on legal risk across the business. Flag what matters, contextualize what doesn't, and help leadership make confident decisions with the information they need.
Rigorous oversight of compliance and regulatory risk. Courier Health handles sensitive patient data on behalf of the world's leading biopharma companies, and we take that responsibility seriously. You will be accountable for ensuring the right legal and compliance frameworks are in place, working closely with specialized outside counsel on HIPAA and data privacy matters, and ensuring that nothing falls through the cracks.
Legal process that runs at scale. Design how legal work flows at Courier Health: intake, triage, turnaround expectations, and escalation paths. Build systems that keep legal proactive, and not reactive.
What Makes You Successful- 8–12+ years of legal experience, ideally including meaningful time in-house at a technology or healthcare technology company
- J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in New York or another U.S. jurisdiction
- Deep experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts: SaaS SOWs, MSAs, BAAs, vendor agreements, and partnership structures
- Working knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare data privacy: fluent enough to spot issues, ask the right questions, and know when to bring in specialized outside counsel
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and making sound risk calls without perfect information or a full playbook
- Ability to make complex legal concepts clear and actionable for non-legal stakeholders at every level of the organization
- A builder's mentality: you like creating systems and processes, not just reviewing individual documents
- Track record of being trusted by cross-functional partner
- Strong executive presence and comfort presenting to and advising senior leadership

The annual salary range for the target level for this role is $190,000 – $240,000 + equity + benefits, including medical, dental, and vision. Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors including relevant experience, interview performance, and internal equity.
