The Role
Position: Director, Learning and Development (L&D), Enterprise Onboarding 

The Director of Learning & Development is responsible for designing, leading, and continuously improving the organization’s enterprise-wide New Hire Orientation program and the post orientation learning journey for Registered Nurses. This role ensures every new employee receives a consistent, high quality onboarding experience and that clinical staff receive the specialized training, coaching, and development needed to deliver quality patient care. The Director provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and subject matter expertise to build a scalable, modern learning ecosystem that strengthens capability, engagement, and performance across the organization.

 

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of facilitators, trainers, and learning specialists; provide coaching, development, and performance management.
  • Direct the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of the organization’s New Hire Orientation program.
  • Ensure orientation reflects organizational values, culture, compliance requirements, and role specific expectations, in partnership with HR, Operations, IT, and business leaders ensuring a seamless onboarding experience from pre-hire to day 90.
  • Standardize learning pathways, materials, and facilitation practices to ensure consistency and quality across all locations.
  • Establish KPIs to measure onboarding effectiveness of applicable programs and leads team in data analysis (e.g., data, feedback, and performance metrics), implementing improvements that enhance engagement and retention.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of post orientation learning programs for RNs, including clinical skills training, workflow readiness, and ongoing competency development and collaborate with clinical leaders, quality teams, and compliance partners to ensure training aligns with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and patient care expectations.
  • Implement and evaluate structured learning pathways for new RNs, analyze effectiveness through RN performance, and adapt learning interventions that improve quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders, identify capability gaps and execute a comprehensive L&D strategy that supports organizational goals, workforce capability, and operational excellence.
  • Introduce modern learning methodologies, technologies, and tools to enhance accessibility, scalability, and learner engagement.
  • Ensure all learning programs meet compliance, accreditation, and regulatory standards
  • Maintain documentation, audit readiness, and reporting for all learning programs.

 

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Organizational Development, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Learning & Development, Clinical Education, or Organizational Development; healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience designing and leading enterprise onboarding programs and clinical training initiatives.
  • Proven understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and modern learning technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and collaborate across clinical and operational functions.
  • Communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
