The Director of Information Technology is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring responsive, secure, and patient-centered technology support across the organization. This position oversees day-to-day IT support operations in a complex, multi-site healthcare environment and plays a critical role in aligning technology services with clinical, administrative, and regulatory needs. The Director leads a high-performing support team and partners with IT and healthcare leaders to deploy systems that improve care delivery, staff efficiency, and compliance with industry standards such as HIPAA. This role requires close collaboration with leaders across departments—including clinical services, operations, compliance, finance, and human resources—to ensure that technology services effectively support the organization’s mission, strategic goals, and regulatory responsibilities.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a skilled IT support team focused on healthcare delivery environments including clinical, administrative, and remote settings.
  • Foster a culture of service excellence, patient data protection, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct staff evaluations and implement training programs to advance technical capabilities and reduce third-party reliance.

Healthcare IT Support Operations

  • Oversee and optimize IT support operations across clinical and non-clinical departments, ensuring timely resolution of technology issues.
  • Establish infrastructure, healthcare-specific, to support protocols and service levels that prioritize clinical workflows and patient safety.
  • Track key performance IT indicators (KPIs) and produce reports that reflect impact on IT Staff and departmental operations with a goal towards delivery and staff satisfaction.

Technology Implementation & Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Partner with the CIO, clinical informatics, and operations teams to support the deployment of new healthcare technologies (e.g., EHR systems, telehealth tools).
  • Ensure support staff are fully trained to provide post-go-live assistance for clinical applications.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to department heads and program managers across the organization.
  • Regularly meet with leadership from clinical, administrative, and operational departments to understand their evolving technology needs and align support services accordingly.
  • Work collaboratively to plan IT-related initiatives, reduce workflow disruptions, and improve staff experience with IT systems.
  • Facilitate organization-wide training to accelerate adoption of new technologies and reduce downtime.

Systems & Compliance Management

  • Guide the implementation and support of advanced systems while ensuring alignment with HIPAA, HITECH, and internal compliance requirements.
  • Maintain and enforce IT policies and procedures to secure protected health information (PHI) and support regulatory audits.
  • Maintain a searchable knowledge base tailored to healthcare users to enable self-service support and training.

Infrastructure Reliability & Security

  • Ensure high availability and security of IT systems that support patient care, electronic records, and medical devices.
  • Coordinate system upgrades, patching, and backups in collaboration with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams.
  • Proactively manage endpoint security, device management, and secure access across multiple sites and mobile environments.

Strategic Alignment & Planning

  • Contribute to IT strategic planning efforts with a focus on patient-centered technology delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate and recommend new solutions that reduce clinical burden and improve healthcare delivery.

Vendor & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Manage IT vendor relationships, ensuring service levels meet healthcare operational demands.
  • Serve as a liaison between IT and clinical/administrative leadership, translating support needs into action.
Qualifications

Required Education, Experience & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field; equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree requirement.
  • At least 7 years of progressive IT support leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience supporting and deploying:
    • Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks)
    • Microsoft Intune for MDM and endpoint security
    • Windows desktop and server environments
    • Microsoft Entra ID or other identity and access solutions
    • Office 365 (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint)
    • Cloud platforms (Azure/AWS) and hybrid environments
    • VoIP telecom systems
    • Strong knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and healthcare-specific IT security practices.
    • Familiarity with LAN/WAN networks and secure wireless environments in healthcare facilities.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clinical and administrative stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects, manage competing priorities, and drive IT operational excellence.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to lift to 20 lbs. for IT hardware transport and setup.
  • Willingness to travel between healthcare sites as needed.
  • Availability to support after-hours maintenance or emergency response.
