Job Description:  Director of Investor Relations, Business/Operations 

 

 

Medtronic, a global leader in medical technology, is seeking a Director of Investor Relations, Business / Operations, to join its award-winning investor relations (IR) team and lead the development and execution of its global investor relations strategy related to business and operations communications. This high-impact role, which will report to the Vice President, Head of Investor Relations, will also serve as an interface between Medtronic and the investment community, responsible for communicating the company’s vision, strategy, and financial performance to institutional investors, analysts, and other key stakeholders. 

 

The Director will oversee IR-related business and operations communications related to global operations and supply chain, quality, reimbursement, and sustainability.  The position will coordinate the collection of business-related catalysts across the enterprise.  The position will coordinate with internal teams, and provide actionable insights to senior leadership. This position will play a critical role in shaping Medtronic’s narrative and strengthening relationships with the investment community. 

 

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in IR, capital markets, and financial communications, as well as a proven ability to manage relationships with senior executives, investors, and analysts. The position requires an articulate and analytical professional leader who can provide work direction and develop talent, including managing one or more people, as well as making significant individual contributions, while also strategically leveraging the broader organization for relevant information and insight into key issues. The ideal candidate should either already possess or have the capacity to quickly develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the company’s activities and strategies, competitive landscape, financial reporting, and financial disclosure regulations. The ideal candidate will have the ability to build cross-functional relationships, work effectively with others, and think strategically, globally, and creatively. In addition, the ideal candidate will need to think and act quickly under a variety of high pressure, time sensitive situations, and needs to be able to make clear, rational decisions, compliant with all applicable rules and regulations, in a very dynamic environment. This position interacts regularly with all levels of management and must be able to earn the respect and trust of senior leadership based on demonstrated performance.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a company spokesperson with institutional investors and equity research analysts, participating in investor meetings (in-person and virtual), roadshows, financial conferences, and trade shows, and responding to inbound questions. 

  • Manage business and operations communications, ensuring bi-directional flow of information between investors and Medtronic leadership. 

  • Collaborate closely with and serve as the IR contact for non-finance corporate functions, including Global Operations and Supply Chain, Quality, Reimbursement, R&D, IT, and Sustainability. 

  • and serve as a key contact for non-finance corporate functions, including GOSC, Quality, Reimbursement, and ESG initiatives.Maintain and update Q&A documents and handle ad-hoc requests from investors and analysts. 

  • Maintain a catalyst list across the enterprise, tracking key events such as clinical studies, product launches, and other significant developments. 

  • Prepare IR-related communication materials for ad-hoc events, such as product recalls or other significant business developments. 

  • Oversee certain earnings-related communications, including development of portfolio slides and Q&A, as well as other corporate Q&A documents. 

  • Monitor and analyze investor sentiment, market trends, stock performance, and competitor activity to provide insights for executive leadership and inform corporate strategy. 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with institutional investors and sell-side analysts, ensuring timely and accurate responses to inquiries. 

  • Support executive management by providing strategic support, relevant financial and operational background information, as well as real-time advice, candid feedback, and constructive criticism 

  • Serve as IR liaison to one of Medtronic’s Portfolios:  develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of their businesses, and provide IR feedback to their leadership team 

  • Serve as a leader within the high-performing IR team, mentoring and developing other team members to support their professional growth and drive team success 

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence in IR. 

 

Must Have: Minimum Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 10+ years of relevant experience (or 8+ with an advanced degree) with 7+ years of managerial experience. 

 

Nice to Have: 

  • In-depth understanding of financial and investment markets; established relationships with investors/analysts preferred. 

  • Experience in medical devices or healthcare sector. 

  • Background in equity research, investment management, investor relations, strategy, or finance. 

  • Exceptional financial and investment analysis, oral and written communication, and presentation skills; able to distill complex concepts into clear messages. 

  • Demonstrated experience working with investors, senior executives, or other high-touch client groups. 

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience collaborating cross-functionally. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills: poised, persuasive, confident, diplomatic, and discreet. 

  • Flexible, quick learner, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth, and ambiguous environment. 

  • Accountable to high standards; delivers results at a high-performance level.

  • Track record of attracting and developing elite talent and creating a diverse and inclusive environment.

  • Proven experience with process innovation and continuous improvement.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$189,600.00 - $284,400.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
