DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL GIVING

ABOUT A PLACE CALLED HOME

A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center in South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance, and art classes, fitness and health and wellness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active community members capable of making positive change in the world in which they live.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Institutional Giving at A Place Called Home leads the strategy and management of the organization’s institutional grant program, overseeing a portfolio of 80–100 active grant prospects. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, this role manages all aspects of grant fundraising—from identifying and cultivating potential funders to solicitation, relationship-building, stewardship, reporting, and grant administration. The Director collaborates closely with program and operations teams to develop compelling materials that align with A Place Called Home’s strategic priorities.

The Director will be a key ambassador for the organization, cultivating strong, trust-based relationships with foundations, corporations, and other institutional partners. By fostering meaningful engagement and demonstrating thoughtful stewardship, the Director ensures that funders feel valued, informed, and aligned with APCH’s mission and impact.  This role provides guidance, direction, and performance oversight for designated team members as assigned, including grant writers, and manages systems for tracking grants, deadlines, and compliance.

Relationship Building & Stewardship

  • Cultivate and sustain strong, trust-based relationships with institutional funders through regular communication, thoughtful engagement, and personalized stewardship strategies.
  • Develop and implement a stewardship plan that ensures funders are consistently recognized, informed about program outcomes, and connected to APCH’s mission and impact.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for institutional funders, deepening relationships that lead to increased loyalty, multi-year commitments, and expanded giving.

Grant Development & Team Management

  • Direct the full grant lifecycle, from proposal development and submission to compliance, reporting, renewal, and stewardship.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of grant writing professionals, producing persuasive proposals and communications aligned with program priorities.
  • Partner with program and finance staff to develop accurate, compelling proposals and budgets that build funder trust and accountability.

Systems, Data, & Reporting

  • Develop and optimize systems to manage a high-volume grant pipeline, improving efficiency, timeliness, and tracking of submissions.
  • Ensure data integrity in Salesforce, documenting funder interactions and generating reports to guide strategic decisions.
  • Introduce process improvements to enhance workflow, increase transparency, and support organization-wide fundraising efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required, background in business, communications, nonprofit management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience with a focus on grants, including proven success securing grants of $75,000 or more.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate, manage, and sustain long-term relationships with institutional funders, including experience in stewardship and donor engagement.
  • Supervisory and management experience is a plus. Experience with Salesforce or other donor databases preferred.
  • Background in the nonprofit youth development sector and familiarity with Los Angeles and California philanthropic markets are a plus.
  • Strong project, relationship, and time management skills; able to multitask, prioritize, and work independently in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented, highly organized, and skilled in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and donor database systems.
  • Mission-driven and service-oriented with a collaborative, solution-focused mindset.
