About the Role
As Director, you will work in the Infrastructure Sector team in Brussels, covering EMEA (except Spain, Portugal and the UK), working in close collaboration with different product teams. The team will comprise your manager, yourself and another director.
This team forms part of ING’s EMEA Infrastructure franchise, with offices in Brussels, London and Madrid. The franchise also extends into the Americas (New York) and APAC (Sydney). We cover primarily infrastructure funds, as well as infrastructure companies (e.g. airports, regulated utilities, ferries) and contractors active in infrastructure projects.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Client Coverage
- Act as the primary relationship manager for your dedicated and prospect infrastructure clients in EMEA (except Spain, Portugal and the UK).
- Organise and set up internal (virtual) deal teams to drive and coordinate origination with both existing and new clients. Work closely with product teams, including Lending, Corporate Finance Advisory, Debt Advisory, Debt Capital Markets, Payments and Cash Management, Trade Financing, and Hedging products, to deliver integrated solutions across the full Wholesale Banking product suite.
- Lead client meetings, negotiations, and presentations, ensuring ING is positioned as a trusted advisor and strategic partner.
- Identify and promote opportunities in the ESG space with sponsors and portfolio companies to drive sustainability ambitions.
- Contribute to KYC onboarding and remediation efforts as part of overall client relationship.
Transaction Leadership
- Lead the origination, structuring, negotiation, execution, and monitoring of complex transactions, including acquisition finance, project finance, fund financing, and sustainability-linked solutions.
- Review financial models, credit applications, and transaction documentation, taking into account ING’s risk appetite and policies.
- Coordinate internal deal teams and work closely with transaction management and portfolio management colleagues to capture business opportunities.
- Take responsibility for securing commercial and credit support from the EMEA commercial and credit committees.
Team Player
- Mentor colleagues, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and high performance.
- Contribute to ING’s sector knowledge, sharing insights and best practices across the EMEA platform, and to ING’s strategic initiatives.
Candidate Profile
Experience/Knowledge
- 9+yrs working experience in a client facing role and a project and/or acquisition finance background.
- Demonstrated expertise and a robust track record within the infrastructure sector, including established relationships with relevant infrastructure stakeholders, is highly desirable.
- Experience with diverse product suite relevant to infrastructure clients.
Personal Competencies
- Strong client origination and pitching skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, with a client centric commercial drive and a true team player attitude.
- Solid financing and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch and/or French.
- Experience mentoring junior colleagues.
