Director HPC Engineering

Sr. Director of HPC Ops Engineering

The Job

The Director HPC Engineering leads a world-class team of maintenance personnel to deliver consistent client SLA commitments. The director creates and maintains a culture of professionalism, operational excellence, and a place where people love to work and build careers. The Director HPC Engineering will have a strong working knowledge of mission-critical facilities subsystems supporting the data centers and hosted customer assets. In addition, the role will be responsible for third party vendor management and tracking operational budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the HPC Operations Teams to maintain 24x7 critical infrastructure service delivery and meet/exceed SLAs for uptime and performance.
  • Create a high-performance and professional work environment.
  • Vendor management to ensure completion of Core Scientific maintenance standards and meet customer facing Service Level Agreements (SLA’s).
  • Provide insight to Senior Leadership on the ability to conceive, architect, propose, lead, and drive the deployment and implementation of infrastructure solutions.
  • Develop operational processes, policies, procedures, and SLA measurements.
  • Leads in incident resolution and participates in root cause analysis.
  • Capacity management across multiple DC’s.
  • Through regular embedded visits, create reports detailing where each data center excels and where they can improve.
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art mission-critical data center infrastructure equipment and systems and stay abreast of industry trends.
  • Assist site-level leaders with prioritizing projects and other operational objectives appropriately.
  • Monitor various key performance indicators, recognize areas of underperformance, analyze root causes, and develop an improvement plan.
  • Provide a clear vision of work required within the domain and the ability to quickly and concisely detail vision and requirements.
  • Provide support for leadership during an absence.
  • Foster open, respectful, and professional communication directly within the team, with coworkers/teammates, and leaders across the organization, and external vendors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, business operations, or a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive IT management experience in a highly competitive, large corporate organization managing $1M+ budgets with solid knowledge of systems operations and 24/7 data center support.
  • Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure elements, including electrical and mechanical subsystems, security, and life/safety systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with disaster recovery concepts, strategies, and implementation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to present complex topics to a nontechnical audience.
  • Strong execution skills. Drives flawless execution of projects as well as contributing to continuous improvements of critical projects and programs.

Location

To be considered for this role, you must reside near one of the following locations: Miami, FL; Austin, TX; or Denton, TX. 

Travel

Frequent travel between data centers is required.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office, warehouse, and data center environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, smartphones, ladders, forklifts, and scissor lifts.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, and lift to 20 pounds.

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, onsite position. General hours and days of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. some nights and weekends may be required.
