ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Director of Regulatory & Government Affairs with deep experience in the energy regulatory landscape to shape, influence, and navigate the evolving state and federal policies that impact our business. This strategic leadership role sits at the intersection of energy policy, development incentives, and regulatory compliance—ensuring our initiatives are supported by sound public policy, optimized incentives, and strong government relationships.

The ideal candidate will pair a visionary understanding of energy markets, utility regulation, and interconnection policy with practical regulatory execution. You will engage with federal and state policymakers, regulatory commissions, economic development authorities, and industry stakeholders to anticipate policy shifts and advocate for outcomes that accelerate interconnection, support large-load energy development, and enable competitive data center growth. Your leadership ensures the company has a voice in shaping the future of energy and infrastructure—reducing regulatory risk, unlocking value through incentives and regulation, and enabling confident development and investment decisions.

Some of the responsibilities you can expect include the following:

Policy Strategy & Advocacy

  • Develop and lead a proactive policy agenda that supports organizational goals in energy, water use, conservation, and economic development.
  • Track, analyze, and communicate the impacts of federal and state legislation, regulations, and tax incentives on our operations.
  • Advocate for regulatory outcomes that align with strategic objectives, including accelerated interconnection, data center incentives, and broader energy policy outcomes.
  • Work closely with executive leadership—particularly with the Energy Origination, Tax, Finance, and Legal teams—to align policy priorities.

Government Relations

  • Serve as the primary liaison with federal agencies, Congressional offices, state regulatory commissions, and economic development committees.
  • Cultivate deep relationships with key decision-makers and industry partners to influence policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Represent the organization before associations, committees, coalitions, and public forums.

Regulatory Compliance & Coordination

  • Ensure compliance with evolving federal and state regulations that affect development, conservation, and utility operations.
  • Coordinate with internal project teams to provide regulatory guidance and anticipate policy impacts.
  • Establish frameworks for monitoring compliance and reporting outcomes to leadership and stakeholders.

Economic & Tax Incentives

  • Partner with tax and economic development functions to understand and maximize available state and federal incentives.
  • Lead engagement with economic development committees and agencies at state and federal levels to secure incentives for strategic projects.

Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Build and mentor a high-performing Regulatory & Government Affairs team in the future, potentially with coverage across major regions.
  • Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on policy trends, emerging risks, and advocacy opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align policy strategies with broader company objectives.

ABOUT YOU

  • 10+ years of experience in government affairs, regulatory strategy, or public policy leadership—preferably in energy, infrastructure, or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated success engaging with federal and state policymakers, regulators, and economic development entities.
  • Deep understanding of the U.S. regulatory landscape, including energy markets, utilities, conservation policy, and public incentives.
  • Strong strategic thinker with exceptional communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills.
  • Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional initiatives and influencing outcomes at the highest levels.
  • Experience working in or with state utility commissions, federal agencies (e.g., DOE, FERC), and Congress a plus.
  • Experience with economic development incentives and tax policy a plus.
