The Financial Lines, Liability, and Bond (FLiB) Claims organization is seeking a strategic and innovative leader to serve as the Director, FLiB Strategy & Performance. This role will lead the development and execution of FLiB's transformation roadmap by combining variation management, operational excellence, AI-enabled innovation, data modernization, analytics, and change leadership into a cohesive strategy that drives measurable business results.

The Director will be responsible for developing and maturing variation management capabilities, identifying opportunities to improve operational performance, advancing the adoption of AI-enabled solutions and FLiB data modernization, and enabling leaders with actionable analytics and insights. This role will partner closely with Transformation & Optimization and Data teams to design, test, implement, and scale solutions that improve claim outcomes, operational consistency, customer experience, and employee effectiveness.

This role requires strong organizational skills, strategic thinking, analytical capabilities, and the ability to influence across all levels of the organization. The successful candidate will bring a passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and change leadership while building strong partnerships across FLiB and enterprise stakeholders.

This role will report directly to the FLiB AVP and work closely with leaders across FLiB and our business partners to ensure transformation priorities and execution align with business strategy and operational needs.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Transformation Leadership

  • Develop and execute a multi-year transformation strategy focused on variation management, operational excellence, analytics, and innovation.

  • Lead large-scale initiatives that improve operational consistency, claim outcomes, employee effectiveness, and customer experience.

  • Regularly communicate progress, benefits realization, and key milestones to senior leaders and stakeholders.

AI Strategy & Innovation

  • Partner with FLiB leadership and Transformation & Optimization partners to identify high-value opportunities for generative AI adoption and business transformation.

  • Lead proof-of-concept initiatives, experimentation efforts, and pilot programs to validate concepts and measure business impact.

  • Guide the design, testing, refinement, and adoption of AI-enabled workflows and tools that enhance productivity and decision-making.

Variation Management & Operational Excellence

  • Establish and mature best-in-class variation management practices across FLiB Claims.

  • Identify opportunities to improve consistency, quality, efficiency, and business outcomes through data-driven insights and process optimization.

  • Partner across functions to drive sustainable adoption of new processes, practices, and capabilities.

Analytics & Business Insights

  • Enhance data and analytics capabilities that support decision-making, operational health, and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Analyze organizational metrics, performance results, and operational trends to identify risks and opportunities.

  • Identify and define critical data elements, performance indicators, and reporting strategies that empower leaders to improve outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years of relevant experience within a large insurance carrier or similarly complex organization.

  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale business transformation, operational excellence, variation management, or strategic change initiatives.

  • Strong project management expertise with experience leading cross-functional programs and delivering measurable business outcomes.

  • Experience leveraging analytics, business intelligence, statistical tools, or data visualization platforms to inform decisions and drive results.

  • Intellectual curiosity, strategic thinking, and a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Strong analytical capabilities with an ability to identify trends, insights, risks, and opportunities from complex data.

  • Experience working with generative AI solutions, AI-enabled business processes, prompt engineering, or emerging technologies preferred.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate strategic objectives into practical solutions and measurable outcomes.

  • Proven ability to influence leaders and stakeholders across departments and organizational levels.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, and relationship management skills.

  • Familiarity with FLiB operations, claims processes, and organizational priorities strongly preferred.

  • Prior leadership experience strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered.

Other Information: 
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.  Candidates who live near one of The Hartford office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).   Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$132,400 - $198,600
