The University of Maine at Farmington is seeking a Director of Finance to serve as a trusted advisor, driving financial planning, sponsored programs administration, and operational excellence across our campus. 

Reporting directly to the Chief Business Officer, you will lead institutional financial modeling, oversee a $14M grant portfolio, manage key accounting operations, and direct a dedicated team.   • Strategic Financial Leadership: Advise executive leadership, build multi-year financial forecasts, and develop business intelligence tools to guide resource allocation. 
  • Grants & Sponsored Programs: Direct financial administration for ~$14M in external grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with Uniform Guidance from proposal through closeout. 
  • Accounting Operations & Controls: Lead general ledger management, year-end audits, internal control enhancements, and financial reporting. 
  • Team & Operational Oversight: Directly supervise three financial staff, support student organization funds, and streamline campus-wide financial workflows. 

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a closely
    related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, grants administration, or related financial field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or leadership experience overseeing accounting, finance, budgeting, or related business operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial management (i.e., budgeting, forecasting, accounting, internal controls, and financial reporting) in a complex organization.
  • Advanced knowledge with spreadsheets and financial reporting tools, including complex formulas, queries, pivot tables, data validation, reconciliations, and financial modeling.
  • Experience administering grants or contracts, including post-award financial management
    and compliance with sponsor requirements.

Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the annual salary range for this position is $60,000 - $72,000 plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents.
