Job Description:

About the Role

 
Reporting to the AVP, Enterprise Reporting & Planning, this role is responsible for the development of management reporting materials for the Board of Directors and Executive Team.

The Director, FR&A leads a high-performing team of financial professionals responsible for enterprise management reporting and analysis. The role also provides the successful candidate an opportunity to learn about Sun Life’s businesses from a macro/holistic perspective and develop analysis to provide key insights to the Executive Office. 

What you'll be doing

Enterprise Reporting & Forecasting

  • Oversee the execution of reporting and forecasting including the development of timelines, guidelines, and coordination with Business Groups and Corporate Functions

  • Own quarterly management reporting and narrative development, clearly connecting results and outlook to enterprise strategy and investor messaging.

  • Ensure executive and Board materials are concise, decision‑oriented, and supported by strong visualizations and coherent storylines.

  • Establish a consistent enterprise “management view” of results, including key drivers, risks, and implications, and deliver content suitable for executive‑level forums.

  • Lead driver‑based forecasting, articulating how key business drivers impact outlook, sensitivities, and run‑rate trajectory.

  • Proactively lead reporting enhancements, collaborating with management reporting partners across the enterprise.

  • Lead and develop a team of financial professionals.

Executive Storytelling & Communication

  • Translate complex financial and actuarial concepts into clear, insightful messages for the Executive Team and Board of Directors.

  • Lead the development of high‑quality executive presentations that integrate analytics, visualization, and narrative to drive informed decision making.

  • Continuously elevate the quality, consistency, and strategic focus of management and Board‑level financial discussions.

Transformation, Automation & Insights

  • Leverage financial systems, automation, and advanced analytics to enhance the quality, speed, and scalability of outputs.

  • Drive continuous improvement across enterprise FR&A capabilities, with a focus on insight generation and value creation.

  • Evolve enterprise performance metrics and KPIs to improve insight into earnings drivers, top‑line growth, and relative performance across the enterprise.

What you'll need to succeed
  • CPA or CFA with 8 to 10 years of Insurance or Financial Services industry experience;

  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to work across multiple functions and business groups;

  • Ability to transform complex issues into simple and concise messaging;

  • Drives for results, optimizes work processes and aligns work to outcomes;

  • Focuses on key internal clients;

  • Operates well in ambiguity and is resilient in changing situations;

  • Works effectively through engagement and influencing others, collaborates effectively and optimizes/develops talent;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Excellent financial and business analytic capabilities;

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office in support of Executive and Board materials.

  • Organizational savvy and ability to navigate and lead cross-functionally within a complex and matrixed organization

  • Proficiency in data analysis and financial modeling.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
