ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Director of Engineering, you will be managing a high-performing engineering org consisting of 3-4 squads of engineers covering our product value streams from our HQ in El Segundo, CA. We have team members stretching from El Segundo to LATAM to central Europe. This role will report directly to our VP, Engineering. You will mentor, lead, and grow our team of software and infra engineers while operating effectively in a Series B environment—comfortable with ambiguity, lean process, and rolling up your sleeves into code, design reviews, or incident response when the situation calls for it.

As Director of Engineering you will also:

  • Drive hiring strategy and close top engineering talent
  • Motivate and communicate across multiple levels of their department
  • Have successful peer partnerships with other department leaders in Engineering, and cross-functionally (product, sales, marketing, etc)
  • Partner closely with Product leadership to translate roadmap into executable engineering plans, including running prioritization and trade-off conversations
  • Development, measurement, and management of key metrics for team performance

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Expert hiring manager skills and experience
  • A well developed people management philosophy for managers and engineers
  • Experience managing managers and engineers
  • Experience supporting enterprise customers (Fortune 500 or regulated industries) with high-touch deployments and uptime expectations
  • Experience leading distributed teams across multiple time zones (e.g., US plus Europe or LATAM)
  • Has directly owned performance management cycles, including coaching, leveling, and exiting underperformers
  • Preferred: experience scaling an engineering org through Series B to C growth
  • Agile/kanban project management skills
  • Commitment to understand, communicate and improve the quality of multiple teams
  • Humble, servant leader

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, 5+ years of leadership experience
  • 5+ years production operations experience
  • Strong debugging skills across distributed systems and microservices architectures

ADDITIONAL INFO:

  • Salary range for this position: $203,000 to $255,000 per year
  • Eligible to participate in HiveWatch Equity Incentive Plan

*Final offer will be at the company's sole discretion and determined by multiple factors, including years and depth of relevant experience and expertise, location, and other business considerations.

What We Do

Born from the frustration of experienced security professionals who understood the industry's biggest challenges, HiveWatch was created to solve what legacy systems couldn't. Security teams are drowning in video feeds and alarms while struggling with staff turnover and missed incidents. They're inundated with repetitive and mundane tasks, tying them down with low-impact and time-consuming work. This type of activity creates intense frustration, leading to complacency, burnout, high turnover, and is ultimately a waste of company funds and resources. As physical security grows and transforms, enabled by advancing AI and technology, it's critical for the industry to embrace this new era to improve the important work the people in physical security are doing. HiveWatch emerged as the antidote: a cloud-native platform that brings together disparate systems, reduces false alarms, and delivers actionable intelligence to security leaders so they can make better decisions. By removing monotonous and laborious tasks, security personnel can be upskilled and enabled to do more impactful, meaningful, and proactive work.

Why Work With Us

HiveWatch is a tech-forward, innovative, and inclusive organization leading the evolution of the physical security industry. We are a data-driven, tech-geek, and fun (at least we like to think so) group of people looking for more diverse perspectives to join us in defining what “keeping people safe” really means.
