Job Summary
The Director of Engineering will provide oversight and management of the engineering, business operations, Right of Way, reliability and technical functions for distribution in the execution of major capital programs. This includes providing leadership and coaching to the engineering organization, managing engineering contractors, establishing engineering design standards, documenting engineering policies and procedures, strategic planning of business operations, managing all IT systems used in the engineering process, evaluating technical solutions, and coordinating a consistent engineering process with the district managers. In performing these duties, this position will lead the Operating Company's distribution organization to implement business solutions that will optimize the process improvement initiatives.Job Description
What You'll Do:
- Provide oversight, management and leadership to a staff of the operating company's engineering, project management and right of way employees and contract employees that both demonstrates and promotes the company's cultural values.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the distribution leadership team to develop business operations strategies that supports a safe, reliable, cost effective, and technically sound distribution system for our customers and employees.
- Work collaboratively with distribution district managers, their staff and other key stakeholders to establish company-wide design standards and develop and implement work plans and budgets.
- Serve as lead engineering and technical expert in regulatory proceedings or in external presentations.
- Establish policies and procedures for all engineering activities and provide training and education to distribution employees.
- Manage all engineering contracts to ensure that the deliverables meet AEP design standards, the engineering work is being in an efficient manner, and that all contract terms are being met.
- Act as the lead within the operating company to work directly with C&DS and other distribution organizations on all engineering and technical related AEP wide initiatives.
- Responsible for management of all IT systems used in the engineering process and ensuring the systems capabilities are fully utilized.
- Seek out and identify new technical solutions in the electric distribution industry.
What We're Looking For:
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or technical field
- MBA preferred but not required
Experience
- 10 + years in power engineering or technical field
- 3+ years of managing or leading engineering teams
