GoFundMe is a global community of over 150 million people who come together every day with the common purpose of helping one another. Our mission is to help people help each other through our best in class technology. In 2022, GoFundMe joined together with Classy, a leading nonprofit fundraising software company that enables nonprofits to connect supporters with the causes they care about. Together, we have empowered people and organizations to raise more than $30 billion since 2010. Our vision is to become the most helpful place in the world.

At GoFundMe, we’re transforming the way payments work at scale. Our growing Payments Engineering team is building next-generation infrastructure to process billions of dollars in transactions, empowering millions of people to create real, meaningful change in the world. We are looking for a passionate and visionary Engineering Leader to help us lead this transformation.

In this role, you’ll spearhead the strategy, design, and execution of GoFundMe’s global payments infrastructure. You will drive innovation, ensure seamless and secure payment experiences, and empower your team to deliver solutions that scale with our mission to help people help themselves.

This is an incredible opportunity to make a direct impact on a platform that changes lives daily while growing both personally and professionally in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

  • Technical Vision: Partner with engineering, product, and design teams to architect and implement scalable, next-generation payments infrastructure. Ensure performance, reliability, and security in a high-transaction environment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver secure and efficient payment capabilities, including checkout, payout, ledgering, reconciliation, and onboarding (KYC).
  • Execution: Drive cross-functional projects from concept to completion, balancing technical trade-offs with business needs and maintaining alignment with organizational goals.

You…

  • Experience: 10+ years as an Engineering Leader, overseeing mid-sized organizations, and driving successful outcomes.
  • Payments Expertise: 5+ years of experience leading teams in one or more key payment areas: checkout/payment methods, payouts, ledgering, reconciliation, interchange, or KYC/onboarding. Proven ability to ship impactful features within complex payment ecosystems.
  • Technical Skills: Deep expertise in system architecture, with a track record of designing and implementing scalable, high-performance solutions in high-transaction environments.
  • Leadership: Strong experience growing teams, leading cross-functional projects, and ensuring timely delivery. Skilled at aligning technical priorities with business goals and communicating effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Adaptability: Equally comfortable diving into the technical details of payment systems and presenting to executive leadership.
  • Mission-Driven: Passionate about creating solutions that empower individuals and communities around the world.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with global payments systems and scaling payment infrastructures in high-growth organizations.
  • Familiarity with emerging payment technologies and trends.
  • Strong connections with payment providers and industry networks.
