About Genius Sports

Genius Sports is at the epicentre of the global network connecting sports, brands and fans through official live data. Our mission is simple. We champion a more sustainable sports data ecosystem that benefits all parties.

We’re looking for enthusiastic and ambitious people to join our talented team.

If you see yourself becoming part of a global family building the future of sports entertainment together, then come and grow with us.

We put trust in our people to deliver the difference for our clients around the world. It’s why many of the world’s largest leagues & federations such as the NFL, English Premier League, FIBA and NCAA choose to work with Genius Sports.

About the job

In 2024, we launched our fan-optimized programmatic and social media buying, audience activation, and creative personalization platform.

Through our close partnerships with sporting leagues, we deploy some of the most sophisticated AI-driven sports technology in the world at sporting venues. Our tracking and data collection systems understand, at extremely low latencies, advanced tactical scenarios and deep statistical insights, creating unique opportunities to engage fans on behalf of brands.

Our ambition is to make available previously unrealized capabilities to target and engage fans with highly relevant content at critical moments in sporting events. This requires deep understanding of how to build performant advertising systems that employ specialized targeting and bidding algorithms.

As a new entrant to the programmatic advertising space, we are seeking not just to develop capabilities that are shared by the wider industry, but a differentiated product highly specialized toward sport.

We are looking for an experienced leader to join our team, lead all advertising initiatives and help us to realize our ambitious vision.

About the role

Normally as a Director of Engineering, you'll have at least ten years of professional engineering experience, including at least six years leading a team. However, we value aptitude over experience and encourage you to apply if you have the relevant skills.

In this role you will take full ownership and responsibility of a division, balancing strategic and tactical goals to distribute work across your teams.

You will be responsible for defining and executing engineering strategy for a large group of engineers, in alignment with senior product, commercial, operational and engineering stakeholders on strategy across the whole organization.

Directors at Genius Sports are ambassadors of our culture, demonstrating daily our core values of acting as one team, being brave and driving change. You will be responsible for building a team aligned with our values, capable of executing our engineering strategy and driving business results.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have deep technical and domain experience building programmatic advertising systems. You should excel at building high-performing teams and leading an organization through periods of change. You should be practiced and thoughtful about giving and receiving feedback, owning both the successes and failures of your team and empowering others.

What we’re looking for

  • A passion for developing technology in advertising and insight into its customer facing application
  • Previous success developing high-performing organizations (30+) and growing leaders
  • Deep technical knowledge, particularly areas that are relevant to developing advertising systems (low-latency bidding, data warehousing, data science)
  • Proven success developing and operating high-scale technology
  • Experience defining thoughtful goals to align larger groups and connect technology initiatives to business-facing outcomes
  • Excellent written and spoken communicator, able to present to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strategic thinking balanced by experience negotiating trade-offs between engineering, product and commercial goals
  • Expertise in organizational design, iterative and incremental software development and fast flow
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or related field

What’s in it for you

As well as a competitive salary and annual leave allowance, our benefits include health insurance, skills training and much more, depending on the location. We also offer a host of softer benefits, including many social events throughout the year such as summer and winter holiday parties, monthly team building events, sports tournaments, charity days and wellbeing activities.

The base salary range for this role is $275,000 – $350,000. There are a number of factors which affect what the specific pay offer would be for this role, including location, seniority, and relevant educational and working experience. This is base salary only – all full-time roles will also be eligible to take part in Genius Sports benefits and equity plan, and some roles may be eligible to take part in a bonus plan. For more details on the compensation and benefits package, please get in touch with our Talent team.

How we work

We have adapted a forward-thinking ‘Ways of Working’ framework, which sets out (amongst other things) the opportunities for Geniuses to work flexibly, remotely and on working holidays. It affects different teams and locations differently, so please ask for further information in how it would work with this role.

Our employees are empowered to stretch the boundaries of what’s achievable, always reaching further and pushing the edges to see what gives. We collaborate, we innovate, and we celebrate. We will continue to grow as an organization and continue to invest in our highly talented and diverse team of Geniuses.

Genius Sports Group is proud to be an equal opportunities employer. We recognize and celebrate the benefits that a diverse and inclusive workforce bring to our business, our customers and our staff. We welcome and will consider all applications regardless of age, different abilities or disability, gender re-assignment, marriage, pregnancy, maternity, race or nationality, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation (and any other applicable status). Please let us know when you apply if you need any assistance during the recruiting process due to a disability.
