Coco Key Hotel & Water Resort Orlando is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the overall maintenance, safety, and operational performance of our hotel, waterpark, and resort facilities.

This key leadership position is responsible for overseeing the Engineering Department and ensuring that all guest rooms, public areas, mechanical systems, pools, waterpark attractions, and resort equipment are maintained to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

The Director of Engineering will provide strategic leadership by developing and overseeing preventive maintenance programs, managing capital improvement and renovation projects, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory and safety requirements, and partnering with resort leadership to support exceptional guest experiences.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, coach, and develop the Engineering team to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and accountability measures.
  • Create work schedules and staffing plans to ensure adequate coverage for operations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of all hotel guest rooms, public areas, administrative offices, waterpark facilities, and back-of-house areas.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all resort assets and equipment.
  • Ensure timely response to maintenance requests and guest service issues.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee deep cleaning schedules for guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and mechanical areas to ensure cleanliness, preventative maintenance, and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, fire protection, and elevators.
  • Oversee the maintenance of all pools, water features, pumps, filtration systems, and waterpark attractions in accordance with operational and safety standards in conjunction with the Director of Aquatics.
  • Conduct routine property inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, health department, fire code, and environmental requirements.
  • Maintain all required permits, certifications, inspections, and operational records.
  • Lead safety initiatives and ensure proper training on equipment operation and workplace safety.
  • Support and coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans across all departments, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate incidents involving facilities, equipment, or property damage and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and manage the Engineering Department budget, including general operating expenses, checkbook expenditures, and renovation and capital improvement projects.
  • Monitor departmental expenses and labor costs to ensure financial objectives are met.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, energy efficiency, and operational improvements.
  • Maintain inventory controls for parts, supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with contractors, vendors, and service providers.
  • Negotiate service agreements and oversee vendor performance.
  • Coordinate renovations, capital improvement projects, and facility upgrades.
  • Ensure all contracted work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
  • Support the resort's commitment to exceptional guest service by ensuring all facilities are clean, safe, functional, and well-maintained.
  • Respond to guest concerns related to maintenance and facility conditions in a professional and timely manner.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to address operational needs and enhance the guest experience.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Previous hotel or resort engineering leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and financial management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Availability to respond to emergency situations as needed.

Skills Required

  • Previous hotel or resort engineering leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems
  • Strong knowledge of life safety systems (fire protection, alarms, codes)
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and financial management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hospitality environment
  • Availability to respond to emergency situations as needed
