The Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is a key leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company's EHSMS and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations across our owned and operated data centers and our critical facility service operations for clients. This position will lead the development of a strong safety culture, minimize environmental impact, and ensure the health and safety of employees, contractors, and visitors. The Director will be a strategic partner to operations, engineering, and stakeholder teams, driving continuous improvement in EHS performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
EHS Program Development and Implementation:
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS policies, procedures, and programs that align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, state, and local).
Maintain EHS management systems.
Develop and deliver effective EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Establish robust incident investigation and root cause analysis processes, ensuring timely and effective corrective and preventive actions.
Implement and manage a comprehensive audit program to ensure ongoing compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Develop and track EHS KPIs and report on progress to leadership.
Regulatory Compliance:
Stay abreast of all applicable EHS regulations and ensure the company's operations are compliant.
Support and manage environmental permits and reporting requirements.
Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
Risk Management and Prevention:
Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard identification analyses across all operations.
Develop and implement effective control measures to mitigate identified risks.
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of safety equipment and systems.
Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement and participation.
Critical Facility Services EHS Oversight:
Develop and implement EHS protocols and procedures specific to providing critical facility services at client locations.
Ensure EHS compliance for service activities, including maintenance, repairs, and project work.
Collaborate with client EHS teams to ensure alignment and adherence to site-specific requirements.
Provide EHS guidance and support to field service teams.
Leadership and Collaboration:
Provide strong leadership and direction to the EHS team.
Collaborate effectively with operations, engineering, facilities, and applicable departments.
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on EHS matters.
Promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship throughout the organization.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
7+ years of progressive EHS experience, with significant experience in an industrial or critical infrastructure environment (data centers preferred).
Proven experience in developing and implementing comprehensive EHS programs and management systems.
Thorough knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control techniques.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) are desirable.
