Job Description

Visa Direct is seeking a Director of Developer Adoption & Experience within the Product, Money Movement Solutions team. This role is based in Foster City and reports to the Senior Director of Innovation and Developer Experience.  

You will play a crucial role in leading our efforts to create exceptional developer experiences that accelerate time-to-value and drive platform adoption. You'll own the complete developer journey from first discovery with documentation through testing and production success, building tools and experiences that make complex integrations feel effortless. This role combines technical product expertise with deep empathy for developer needs to create solutions that developers genuinely love using. 

You'll drive innovation in developer-facing tools, from AI-powered integration assistants to intuitive self-service portals, while collaborating deeply with our API Platform and Infrastructure team. Your team will build the experience layer that sits on top of our robust platform infrastructure, turning powerful but complex capabilities into delightful developer experiences. Success in this role means creating adoption experiences that drive measurable improvements in developer onboarding, satisfaction, and long-term success on our platform. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead developer journey optimization from initial discovery through production deployment and ongoing success 
  • Build developer experience layer for environments including intuitive onboarding flows and self-service interfaces 
  • Create innovative developer tools including self-service portals, API explorers, and AI-powered integration assistants that leverage platform infrastructure 
  • Create and maintain developer-focused documentation, tutorials, and educational content 
  • Develop and execute strategy for SDK development, maintenance, and expansion across multiple programming languages 
  • Establish SDK operating models including release processes, versioning, and community feedback integration 
  • Drive developer success through monitoring tools, analytics, and proactive support automation 
  • Partner with global developer focused teams to gather feedback and drive adoption 
  • Collaborate with the API Platform team to ensure seamless integration between tools and infrastructure 
  • Analyze developer usage patterns and satisfaction metrics to continuously improve experiences 

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
- 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications
- 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
- 6+ years of software development experience with 3+ years focused on developer tools or SDK development
- 3+ years of product management or technical leadership experience
- Deep understanding of developer experience principles and user-centered design
- Experience building and maintaining SDKs, APIs, or developer-facing products
- Proven track record of driving adoption metrics and developer satisfaction improvements
- Experience with developer tooling, documentation systems, and community engagement
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts in jargon-free ways
- Proven self-starter unafraid to get into the details, investigate legacy systems, and work with ambiguity.
- Strong decision-making skills with experience creating strategic visions, defining execution roadmaps, and developing contingency plans for alternative scenarios
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Experience at a company with successful developer platform or SDK programs
- Background in developer relations, developer evangelism, or community building
- Experience with AI/ML tools for developer productivity and automation
- Knowledge of modern frontend frameworks and developer tooling ecosystems
- Previous experience managing product managers focused on developer experiences
- Experience with user research and data-driven product development

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for this position is 207,500.00 to 332,400.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
