Position Description:

Designs and deploys applications, using Amazon Web Services (AWS) stack – EC2, Cloud Watch, Route53, S3, RDS, Dynamo DB, SNS, SQS, and IAM, focusing on high-availability, fault tolerance, and auto-scaling. Performs the implementation and administration of standalone, Automatic Storage Management (ASM), and Real Application Cluster (RAC) based Oracle databases both on-premises and in the public Cloud. Evaluates releases of databases and cross-platform migrations, using Oracle Real Applications Testing (RAT). Provides technical guidance on the design and implementation of complex databases. Documents design, operational procedures, and standards for highly complex/business critical databases.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Translates and incorporates business vision and strategy related to define and evaluate database maintenance tools and build processes.
  • Participates in high-level, cross-functional architecture design teams; and designs, evaluates, and performs highly complex database performance and functionality testing.
  • Identifies and consults with internal and external technical resources to produce cross-company strategic designs.
  • Consults on development and delivery of major technology initiatives for the business unit.
  • Consults on deployment of major project deliverables; and establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects.
  • Consults on the documentation of major technology application; and develops and maintains policies, procedures, and techniques in order to minimize future incident occurrence.
  • Initiates and drives project or strategy discussions with users or external groups to resolve issues.
  • Sets vision, goals, and direction of team/organization.
  • Plans and leads organization-wide initiatives.
  • Provides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Defines security requirements and operational procedures to ensure network integrity, physical protection, and authorized access to the network and applications.
  • Works across groups to identify opportunities for organization-wide technology initiatives.
  • Determines technical approaches at a strategic level for the business unit.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Science, Industrial Management, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Database Administration (or closely related occupation) performing database architecture and administration across Cloud environments within the financial services industry.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Science, Industrial Management, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Database Administration (or closely related occupation) performing database architecture and administration across Cloud environments within the financial services industry.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) architecting and implementing robust, scalable data platform solutions within a financial services environment, using relational and NoSQL technologies (Oracle, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, YugabyteDB, and MongoDB); and deploying solutions across on-premises data centers and public Cloud environments (AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)).
  • DE designing and implementing high-performance, secure data systems, using advanced native security features – Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), Label Security, Database Vault, Data Redaction, Unified Auditing, and Virtual Private Database (VPD); and monitoring database activity for comprehensive logging and real-time threat detection, using enterprise monitoring and compliance tools – Oracle OEM, Grafana, Datadog, IBM Guardium, and Jsonar.
  • DE assessing project-specific requirements to identify, acquire, and provision optimal infrastructure and services; implementing continuous, low-latency data replication pipelines, using Oracle GoldenGate, Apache Kafka, and AWS Data Migration Service (DMS), across hybrid and multi-Cloud environments (AWS, Azure, and OCI); and configuring change data capture (CDC), ensuring high availability, scalability, and consistency across distributed systems.
  • DE architecting enterprise-scale data ecosystems optimized for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and advanced analytics, using Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL and modern NoSQL engines (MongoDB, DynamoDB and Aerospike); and performing modular and extensible data lake architecture design, using AWS S3 and Azure Data Lake, while ensuring governance, lineage, and security across hybrid, multi-Cloud, and on-premises environments (AWS, Azure, and OCI).
