Director, Data Solutions Engineering

We are seeking a technically adept and experienced Data Solutions Engineering Leader who is passionate about leading a team of data engineers in our global capability center to develop world-class data products, solutions, and capabilities. This role will define the data strategy, data management practices, and governance to support Pfizer's commercial business units. You will serve as the internal expert on healthcare data sources and manage alignment across multiple functions (commercial and medical) to foster value creation through the organization's data assets, data management practices, and external data providers.
This role will be accountable for developing the consumption of data sources to generate unique insights from Pfizer's extensive data ecosystems. A strong technical design and development background is essential to ensure effective management of a technical data engineering team.
As a senior member of our data lake/data warehousing team, you will use deep business and technical acumen to partner with business units and supporting functions. You will advocate for the appropriate use of data assets and data products according to industry best practices and align data strategy and capabilities clearly with business priorities and compliance across all areas. This role will manage the prioritization of business demand by evaluating and balancing strategy, objectives, current capabilities, and performance. You will own the roadmap of leading solutions and capabilities and successfully deliver strategic and operational programs that balance enterprise standardization and business customization trade-offs to maximize overall business value. Your expertise will be pivotal in creating and maintaining the data capabilities that enable advanced analytics and data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Leading a team of high performing data engineers.
• As business partner, exhibit strong business acumen and manage relationships and communications with senior business partners.
• Assess emerging technologies and identify new methods to improve the organizations strategic position and business performance through a data strategy aligned to the technology strategy.
• As implementation expert, deliver large scale transformational programs and targeted operational projects that streamline business process and data, reduce complexity and cost, rationalize technology, and ensure sustainability.
• Prototyping and design thinking.
• Ensure compliance with the standards and data regulations required for Pharam and Healthcare industries, and ensure technical health.
• Create standard procedures to ensure efficient CI/CD.
• Accountable for project documentation and playbook, including but not limited to physical models, conceptual models, data dictionaries and data cataloging.
• Demonstrate outstanding collaboration and operational excellence.
• Drive best practices and world-class product capabilities.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant professional experience with a demonstrated track record of results in leading and building high performing teams.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical area such as computer science, engineering, or management information science. Master's degree is preferred.
• 7+ years of combined data warehouse/data lake experience as a data warehouse/lake professional and recent focus on data and feature engineering for AI/ML use cases.
• Multiple examples of proven ability to define and deliver highly complex and multi-national programs that enable business transformation and deliver bottom line business objectives.
• Recent Healthcare Life Sciences (pharma preferred) and/or commercial/marketing data experience is highly preferred.
• Domain knowledge in the pharmaceutical industry preferred.
• Good knowledge of data governance and data cataloging best practices.

Technical Skillset

• 10+ years of hands-on experience in working with SQL, Python, object-oriented scripting languages (e.g. Java, C++, etc..) in building data pipelines and processes. Proficiency in SQL programming, including the ability to create and debug stored procedures, functions, and views.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience architecting, designing and delivering large data lake/data warehousing projects.
• Minimal of 5 years in hands on design of data models.
• Proven ability to effectively assist the team in resolving technical issues.
• Proficient in working with cloud native SQL and NoSQL database platforms. Snowflake experience is desirable.
• Experience in AWS services EC2, EMR, RDS, Spark is preferred. Azure and GCP are nice to have.
• Solid understanding of Scrum/Agile is preferred and w orking knowledge of CI/CD, GitHub MLflow.
• Familiarity with data privacy standards, governance principles, data protection, pharma industry practices/GDPR compliance is preferred.
• Great communication skills.
• Great business influencing and stakeholder management skills.
