FairSquare is continuing to grow its Data Engineering Department and has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Data Engineering. Responsible for designing, building, and scaling our data infrastructure to support the needs of our organization's data-driven initiatives. Works with Business Intelligence and Data Science teams to ensure data is easily accessible and usable for insights and analysis. Manages the sprint cycle and resource allocation along with day-to-day people management. Works alongside the data engineering pod focused on production system integration to understand how new development impacts data and proactively accounts for those changes. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of our data infrastructure while driving innovation and continuous improvement.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of talented data engineers responsible for designing, building, and maintaining our data infrastructure platform.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive data strategy aligned with business goals and objectives collaborating with technical leads and product managers on prioritization and roadmap plans.
  • Establish and enforce data governance policies and best practices. Implement and maintain processes to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Conduct data discovery activities, performing root cause analysis and making recommendations for the remediation of data quality issues.
  • Understand business and technical requirements, provision of subject matter expertise and implementation of data engineering techniques
  • Establish and maintain performance monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting mechanisms to ensure the reliability and availability of our data infrastructure platform.
  • Work cross-functionally to prioritize work items, track progress, and deliver commitments. Collaborate extensively with data science and analytics teams to design data platform(s) that support their needs and deliverables.
  • Directly contribute to the entire development cycle, from conception and design through release, reporting and analytics.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Degree in computer science or related field 
  • 5+ years of leadership/experience managing highly technical teams.
  • Strong technical background in data engineering, data pipelines, ETL, data modeling, and data architecture
  • Required experience with Snowflake, dbt, AWS
  • Demonstrated experience in high quality data handling - tracking lineage, proactive monitoring, data governance, and improving discoverability of data.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and tools such as Jira.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Proven track record delivering high visibility projects on time and budget


Physical Demands:

  • Working in a temperature-controlled office environment
  • Sitting at a desk for long periods of time while viewing multiple computer screen monitors
  • Potential lifting of boxes around 5-10lbs
