Geode Capital Management is actively searching for a full-time Director of Data Engineering to lead our data engineering team, drive data management strategies, and collaborate with application engineering teams. Reporting to the Head of Data, this role requires a strong technical background in data engineering, hands-on cloud experience in AWS, and a solid understanding of application engineering. The ideal candidate will be both a strategic thinker and a hands-on leader, managing a team while ensuring scalable and efficient data solutions.
This is a hybrid work environment opportunity located in Boston, Massachusetts with a weekly in office schedule of Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and remote work availability on Mondays and Fridays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a high-performance culture
- Collaborate with Architects to design, and implement scalable data pipelines, data warehouses, and data management solutions
- Ensure best practices in data governance, quality, security, and compliance
- Collaborate with application engineering teams to integrate data solutions with software applications
- Provide technical leadership in cloud-based data engineering, with a strong focus on AWS services
- Oversee data infrastructure, ETL/ELT pipelines, and real-time data processing
- Define and maintain data engineering best practices and standards to ensure high quality, scalable and efficient data solutions
- Evaluate and implement new technologies to optimize data workflows
Skills You Bring:
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role managing teams
- Expertise in data architecture, data modeling, and data management
- Application engineering experience is a must, preferably within the java ecosystem, including frameworks such as Spring Boot
- Strong cloud experience in AWS, including data-related services
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to drive technical initiatives and business outcomes
- Experience in the investment management domain is highly preferred
- Familiarity with data science and machine learning concepts is a strong plus
- The candidate must have strong experience in at least in 2 of 3 the following areas:
- ETL/ELT development using tools like SnapLogic, Informatica, Talend, etc.
- Expertise in cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, etc., for building data warehouses and data lakes
- Master data management, specifically building investment domain data masters
