The Challenge
What You’ll Take On
- Serve as advisor and partner to Human Resources and key business leaders on all contentious and non-contentious employment and employee benefit issues in the UK, EMEA and APAC, supervising outside counsel where appropriate.
- Develop, draft, and implement company policies, employee handbooks, agreements, standards, and business procedures designed to foster compliance with applicable employment laws.
- Drive efficiencies and achieve process improvements through collaboration with Human Resources and other corporate functions.
- Analyze impact of legislative changes to our employment and employee benefit practices, policies, and procedures.
- Negotiate and review employment agreements, independent contractor arrangements and certain vendor agreements.
- Structure, negotiate, and draft settlement agreements and other related agreements and policies.
- Assist or lead in handling employment litigation and pre-litigation disputes; hands-on role in coordinating and directing case strategy.
- Develop and lead training programs for Human Resources.
What You Bring
- The ability to work well in a fast-paced, high volume, in-house environment, demonstrating responsiveness, good business judgment, flexibility, self-confidence, and a sense of humor.
- Demonstrable experience acting as a trusted business partner enabling businesses to measure and manage risk in a changing landscape.
- Knowledge of and experience with employment laws in the UK and EU.
- Knowledge of and experience with employment laws in APAC is highly valued.
- The ability to be innovative and provide creative solutions to complex legal problems.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Solid training in private practice and broad-based employment and employee benefit law experience:
- Managing Employment Tribunal litigation to conclusion, including settlement negotiations, for claims of unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing;
- Categorisation of workers, working time legislation, equality and diversity;
- Excellent drafting skills including engagement contracts, HR policies and procedures;
- Ability to proactively manage own workload.
- 6 - 8 years relevant employment experience in a law firm and/or corporate law department required, including both contentious and non-contentious experience.
- Willingness to engage and invest in business relationships to continually develop knowledge and understanding of the Company.
- Experience in house is beneficial, but not essential, as is technology or entertainment industry experience.
