As the Director, Corporate & Capital Market Credit Granting Ontario, Atlantic, Western (OAW) regions for Capital Markets and Large Businesses in Corporate Finance, your role involves analyzing, evaluating, authorizing, and making recommendations for highly complex strategic financing requests. You will operate within the delegation limits granted, ensuring a healthy and prudent risk management approach. This position reports directly to the Managing Director, Credit Granting OAW. The Director plays a key role in overseeing the credit adjudication of Corporate Financing transactions within the Bank’s Commercial Financial Services Market. Operating within their delegated lending authority, the Director ensures that adjudication responsibilities are met with a focus on maintaining the risk profile, aligning with business objectives, optimizing operational effectiveness, and enhancing the overall client experience. As a senior member of the team, you will provide coaching and mentorship to teammates, share best practices, and act as the primary contact for any credit escalations. You will serve as an advisor to the front line and work closely with them. This role balances the achievement of business objectives with the risk of loss to clients and shareholders. It ensures adherence to corporate policies to maintain risk exposure within the Bank’s stated risk appetite and operates within a legal framework and other regulatory requirements. You will suggest improvements in risk management and contribute to the implementation and compliance with current credit policies. Your knowledge of the business area and interpersonal savvy are essential. This role requires a strong understanding of financial analysis, market trends, and risk assessment to make sound credit decisions while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards. More specifically, you will be required to:

  • Ensure consistency and balance between Desjardins' risk appetite, client needs, and business line requirements

  • Review, evaluate, analyze and recommend highly complex files with sales exceeding $250 million, considering all risk variables. Hold a personal approval limit of up to $25 - $40 million and act as the recommender and the second signatory

  • Prepare and present recommendation notices for major files to the Desjardins Group Credit Committee

  • Support the Managing Director in various team management tasks and handle high transaction volumes

  • Identify acceptable solutions for all stakeholders in complex and often strategic financing for business units

  • Serve as a resource for professionals in the division and network, particularly for negotiating high-risk, complex, or special problem files

  • Engage with internal business partners, adding value through market information, risk appetite for certain types of transactions, and analysis quality

  • Participate in initiatives that help the administrative department achieve its strategic objectives

  • Act as a leader within the organization and the market, staying current in your field of expertise and contributing to its development. Monitor the industry to maintain a high level of expertise and contribute to continuous process improvements

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor’s degree in administration, accounting, finance or a related field

  • A minimum of nine years of relevant experience in corporate credit adjudication, capital markets, or a related field, with a proven track record of handling complex and strategic financing files

  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered

  • Experience with high-value transactions and large-scale projects

  • Expert knowledge of credit analysis, risk management, and loan evaluation processes

  • Expert knowledge of corporate and capital market financing

  • Expert proficiency of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
