About the Role:

As Director of Financial Control for Investment Solutions, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a robust controls environment to support financial reporting and monitoring for our Individual Wealth business. Reporting to the AVP of Financial Reporting & Controls, you will provide expert guidance on new initiatives and offer accounting interpretations and advice on complex transactions.

This role will focus on working with your team to streamline and automate our financial accounting and control processes, continuing to transform the accounting and control function to optimize the use of new financial technology and automate at an accelerated pace as we look to modernize the business for timely, accurate reporting and a shortened close cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

•    Lead the establishment and maintenance of the first line of defense (1LOD) control and governance framework, including monthly GL reconciliation review and attestation.
•    Oversee and provide strategic direction for the control environment, collaborating with internal auditors, ICFR testing teams, external auditors, and regulators.
•    Advise on new initiatives from a Financial Controls perspective, considering impacts on legal entity financial reporting, bank reconciliation, and ICFR controls.
•    Drive process improvements and lead special projects, including SAP upgrades.
•    Evaluate and enhance internal controls, investigating the cause of weaknesses and ensuring appropriate action plans are developed and implemented.
•    Effectively manage and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
 

Qualifications:
•    CPA designation with experience in Investment and/or Financial Services 
•    Accounting or financial reporting experience
•    Expertise in Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (SOX 404)
•    Strong leadership and communication skills
•    Strategic thinking with a process improvement mindset
•    Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment
•    Strong organizational and prioritization skills
•    Experience working with large data sets
•    Familiarity with Sun Life's internal administration systems (Prism, Ingenium, LA)
•    Proficiency in SAP, Tableau, AFO, and Workiva

•  As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position includes managing both French and English-speaking staff (Quebec and outside Quebec) and providing daily support to the team.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
