The Role

We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Director Competitive Transmission Administration and Metrics who will provide strategic leadership for the processes that bring new transmission infrastructure from planning to reality across the MISO footprint. This role will oversee the team responsible for executing MISO’s Competitive Transmission process, guiding the development of project cost estimates, qualifying transmission developers, and leading the evaluation of proposals for facilities approved through the MISO Transmission Expansion Plan (MTEP). The Director will ensure a rigorous, transparent, and compliant competitive process while driving continuous improvement in planning tools, analytics, and reporting. By overseeing proposal development and evaluations, advancing cost-estimating practices used in the annual MTEP cycle, and managing project performance monitoring and compliance reviews, this leader will play a critical role in enabling timely, cost-effective transmission development. In close partnership with other planning functions, the Director will ensure coordination across the organization to support reliable, efficient, and forward-looking grid expansion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute long-term operational strategies aligned with corporate goals and industry trends.
  • Change Management: Lead transformational initiatives to modernize grid systems, optimize performance, and enhance system resilience.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with executive leadership, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to influence outcomes and foster alignment.
  • Operational Excellence: Establishes scalable processes and clear operational frameworks that bring structure to complex and evolving work, using data, dashboards, and technology to drive informed decisions while embedding strong process discipline, continuous improvement, and built-in compliance to ensure consistent, high-quality execution across the function.
  • Organizational Development: Build and mentor high-performing teams, cultivating leadership capability and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the organization in industry forums, regulatory discussions, and community outreach to advocate for operational priorities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Deep business and industry knowledge, with the ability to understand market dynamics, organizational priorities, and how the function contributes to enterprise outcomes.
  • Demonstrated execution capability, with a track record of translating strategy into action and delivering meaningful, measurable results.
  • Intellectual curiosity and inquisitiveness, with a desire to ask thoughtful questions, explore new ideas, and continuously improve how work is done.
  • Strong technology acumen, including experience leveraging tools, analytics, and dashboards to drive insights, transparency, and informed decision-making.
  • Proven ability to drive work forward, ensuring progress and accountability across initiatives and teams.
  • Experience working effectively in ambiguity, including building new processes or functions, identifying gaps, and helping define and shape emerging areas of work.
  • Strategic and visionary mindset, with the ability to see the broader potential of the work and position the function for future impact.
  • Demonstrated discipline in process improvement, ensuring operational rigor while embedding appropriate compliance and governance practices.
  • Strong leadership capability, with experience developing talent at multiple levels—including managers, team leads, and individual contributors—and building high-performing teams.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a matrixed environment, leveraging strong emotional intelligence to build relationships, influence outcomes, and align cross-functional partners.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage clearly and confidently with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership and executives.
  • Self-directed and resilient, comfortable managing a significant volume of work and operating in environments where clear playbooks may not exist. The successful candidate is able to create a path forward as new information emerges and thrives in collaborative, team-oriented settings.
