Where you will work: This position offers a hybrid work option (up to 50% remote) and is based out of the Sun Prairie, WI; Mankato, MN; Lakeville, MN; Bloomington, IL or Naperville, IL offices

The contributions you will make: 

The Director Compensation will lead the organization’s compensation strategy and operations to attract, retain, and reward top talent. This individual will manage a team of compensation professionals, design and implement competitive programs, and provide expert guidance to leadership on compensation matters. The work ensures compensation practices align with organizational goals, support a high-performance culture, and remain compliant with laws and regulations.


A typical day: 

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of compensation professionals by providing direction, support, and oversight to ensure collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
  • Oversee the execution of compensation initiatives, projects, and daily operations, ensuring priorities are clear and results are delivered effectively.
  • Provide expert guidance on compensation strategy and serve as a resource for complex issues, while empowering team members to carry out the work.
  • Direct the design, development, and administration of salary structures, short- and long-term incentive programs, and job architecture to maintain consistency, competitiveness, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Translate organizational goals into actionable compensation strategies and ensure team execution supports talent acquisition, retention, and engagement.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and thought partner to leaders, HR, and Finance by offering insight, oversight, and recommendations on compensation matters.
  • Ensure effective communication of compensation programs across the organization by overseeing messaging and providing clarity to leaders and team members.
  • Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and program effectiveness, guiding the team in making updates to keep compensation practices compliant and competitive.
  • Direct the development and delivery of training for leaders and team members to build organizational understanding of compensation programs and practices.
  • Use data, systems, and analytics to oversee program evaluations and ensure informed decision-making across the enterprise.

The skills and experience we prefer you have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; Master’s degree or CCP certification preferred.
  • Advanced level of progressive experience in compensation management, including strategy development and program design.
  • Proven track record of progressively responsible leadership roles managing HR or compensation teams.
  • Strong knowledge of compensation principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Experience designing and administering salary structures, short- and long-term incentive programs, and job architecture.
  • Proven ability to present complex information in clear, understandable ways.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with compensation analysis tools, HRIS systems, and MS Office applications.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to travel as needed.

The actual title and base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for variable compensation and other benefits.

$129,800$197,600 USD
