Job Description

The Director Compensation is responsible for administering Children’s compensation strategy.  This leader ensures Children’s compensation programs align with Children’s business objectives and are effective in attracting, motivating, and retaining key talent, while remaining fully compliant with all regulatory requirements.

This is a collaborative role that works cross-functionally with leaders across the system and partners closely with leaders in HR, Finance and Legal to understand talent and business needs and collectively develop and implement effective solutions.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to and direct supervision of Compensation team through effective coaching and performance management.

  • Strategically assess the effectiveness of current compensation programs in achieving organizational objectives and give recommendations for modifications.

  • Lead the design, implementation, and administration of total compensation offerings and programs.

  • Develop and coordinate communication strategies and activities designed to educate and inform employees about their compensation.

  • Maintain knowledge of economic conditions, labor market, trends, developments, and best practices in compensation.

  • Develop executive reviews and insights for the compensation committee.

  • Establish and identify opportunities for improvement of HR policies and processes across the full employee lifecycle.

  • Ensure plans comply with federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations.

Candidate Attributes

We are seeking candidates with the following experience, education, knowledge, and abilities.

Experience
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in a human resources field, with at least three (3) years of compensation program management experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing creative solutions to complex problems.

  • Experience working in an academic healthcare environment is strongly preferred.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, or related field is required.

  • A master’s degree is strongly preferred.

Certification Summary
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proven success in building and leading high-performance teams that deliver superior customer service by achieving desired results within specified timelines.

  • A leader who understands short- and long-term financial impact of Total Rewards practices, and able to prepare and oversee the presentation of relevant financial data to a senior audience.

  • Ability to stay informed of industry best practices and future trends of compensation.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and effectively communicate data.

  • Thorough knowledge of all federal, state, and local regulations and compliance requirements related to employee compensation.

  • Strong partnering and influencing skills, adept at collaborating with all levels inside an organization, including the highest executive levels of the organization.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including demonstrated experience working collaboratively with multiple disparate stakeholders at all levels.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing creative solutions to complex problems.

  • Comfortable driving change and embracing innovation in face of ambiguity and complexity.

  • Ability to distill complex information into key messages and clearly and simply communicate in a compelling way to front line employees and executives alike.
