The Role

Neo Financial is looking for a Director, Community Engagement (New Canadians) to join our Marketing team in Calgary. This role owns Neo's New Canadians community pillar, building and scaling a thriving community of newcomers to Canada who are navigating their financial journey and building their lives here.

Reporting to the VP, Marketing, you will develop and execute a community strategy that helps New Canadians build credit, understand the Canadian financial system, and achieve financial confidence through Neo's products and ecosystem. You will drive engagement, advocacy, and product adoption while serving as the internal champion for the New Canadian audience.

What you'll be doing:

  • Community Strategy: Develop and own the New Canadians community strategy, aligned with Neo's growth objectives and the New Canadians pillar priorities.

  • Community Building: Build and scale a thriving community of New Canadians engaged with Neo's ecosystem, driving product adoption through culturally relevant education, content, and programming.

  • Events & Initiatives: Create and execute community-led initiatives (events, webinars, content series, partnerships) addressing the unique financial needs of newcomers: building credit history, understanding the Canadian banking system, navigating major financial milestones.

  • Partnerships: Develop partnerships with settlement agencies, newcomer organizations, cultural associations, and educational institutions to expand reach and credibility.

  • Content & Education: Spearhead content and resources tailored to New Canadians, including multilingual or culturally adapted materials that drive product understanding, trust, and adoption.

  • Advocacy Programs: Design and lead community programs (ambassador programs, peer support networks, welcome journeys) that turn engaged New Canadians into advocates and referral drivers.

  • Voice of the Customer: Champion the voice of New Canadians internally, influencing product roadmap, marketing strategy, and customer experience to better serve newcomer needs.

  • Insights & Opportunities: Identify and act on insights about the New Canadian financial journey to inform new product opportunities and feature enhancements.

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Community Specialists focused on the New Canadians segment, fostering cultural sensitivity and customer-centricity.

  • Platform Management: Oversee community touchpoints, including online platforms, in-person events, and partner channels, focused on where New Canadians congregate and seek financial guidance.

Who we are looking for:

  • Community Leadership Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in community management, engagement marketing, or audience development, with 3+ years in a leadership role managing teams.

  • New Canadian / Multicultural Expertise: Deep understanding of the newcomer experience in Canada, settlement journey, financial challenges, cultural nuances, and community dynamics.

  • Partnership Development: Proven track record of building strategic partnerships with community organizations, settlement agencies, or cultural institutions.

  • Content & Programming: Experience developing and executing culturally relevant content strategies and community programming that drive engagement and product adoption.

  • Data-Driven Approach: Ability to measure community impact, track engagement metrics, and tie community activity to business outcomes (acquisition, adoption, retention).

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to influence product, marketing, and CX teams with community insights and customer voice data.

  • Team Building: Experience building and mentoring small, high-performing teams with a focus on cultural sensitivity and community-first thinking.

  • Fintech / Financial Services: Experience in fintech, banking, or financial services is a strong asset; understanding of credit-building products and newcomer financial products preferred.

  • Multilingual: Fluency in one or more languages commonly spoken by New Canadian communities is a strong asset.
