Position Overview:

Univista Insurance is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Commercial Department Manager to lead the development and expansion of our Middle Market Commercial Lines business. This leader will oversee daily operations, drive growth initiatives, and manage a team of commercial agents and account managers while ensuring exceptional service delivery.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in commercial insurance, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven track record managing complex middle-market accounts. This role is critical to accelerating Univista’s presence in the commercial insurance space and shaping the long-term direction of the department.


Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of commercial agents and account managers.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching sessions, and ongoing professional development.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.

Operational Oversight

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the commercial department with a strong focus on middle market commercial business.
  • Ensure accuracy in policy management, compliance, and adherence to underwriting guidelines.
  • Monitor production metrics, retention, service levels, and operational efficiency.

Middle Market Commercial Growth

  • Develop and execute strategies to grow Univista’s Middle Market Commercial Lines segment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, underwriters, and key business partners.
  • Support agents in managing complex accounts, coverage needs, renewals, negotiations, and risk evaluations.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling, expansion, and increased market penetration.


Client & Sales Management

  • Ensure high-quality service delivery and customer satisfaction across all commercial accounts.
  • Resolve escalated issues, oversee large or complex accounts, and provide expert guidance on coverage recommendations.
  • Drive sales and retention goals aligned with business objectives.

Process Improvement & Reporting

  • Analyze departmental performance to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Implement operational enhancements to drive efficiency, accuracy, and profitability.
  • Prepare and deliver reports to senior leadership on KPIs, growth performance, middle market progress, and trends.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Marketing, Underwriting, Claims, and Compliance to support commercial line initiatives.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to shape the strategic vision and long-term growth of the commercial department.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Active 2-20 General Lines License is REQUIRED.
  • More than 5 years of experience in Commercial Lines, with a strong background managing middle market accounts.
  • Proven experience as a Middle Market Commercial Account Manager or similar role.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills, preferably leading teams in an insurance setting.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish required.
  • Strong expertise in commercial coverages, underwriting guidelines, and risk assessment.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, policy platforms, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Reliable transportation required.
