The ALSO Software Engineering organization is seeking an experienced engineering leader to build and lead the Cloud Platform team. The Director of Cloud Platform will be responsible for the company’s cloud strategy, core infrastructure, security, identity, and data pipeline, as well as providing the foundational infrastructure, tooling, and guidance that allows our backend developers to focus more on delivering an excellent customer experience and less on the complexities of maintaining robust infrastructure.

What You Will Do

• Define and own the vision, roadmap, and delivery of our internal cloud platform.

• Build the team: hire and mentor engineers to form a high-performing, empowered platform group.

• Design and implement scalable infrastructure primitives for microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures.

• Own core data infrastructure: manage the architecture and operation of our data pipelines, databases, telemetry, and analytics platforms.

• Drive developer productivity through tools, workflows, and guardrails that enable fast, secure software development.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, firmware, mobile, and backend teams to ensure infrastructure supports current and future feature needs.

• Champion DevOps best practices including observability, alerting, automated deployments, and infrastructure-as-code.

• Ensure cloud security and compliance through strong policy, tooling, and security

What You Will Bring

• 10+ yrs of experience as SWE or similar with at least 5 years in a management position

• 7+ years of hands on experience architecting and deploying cloud-native applications on a public cloud provider, including at least 5 years on AWS (GCP also acceptable)

• Proven track record of building and launching products at scale.

• Experience recruiting, building, and leading backend teams

• Start up experience - You understand what it takes to go 0->1, work effectively in scrappy environments, and scale products

• Knowledge of foundational infrastructure and data concepts (e.g. identity and access management, observability, service mesh, CI/CD, databases, and data pipelines)

• Strong expertise in distributed systems, IaC (Terraform/CDK), CI/CD systems, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and observability tools.

• Familiarity with data infrastructure (e.g., event streaming, ETL/ELT, data warehouses like Snowflake/BigQuery).

• Ability to work through ambiguity and deliver clarity

• Nice to have:

  • Experience in IoT, connected hardware, or consumer mobility products

  • Familiarity with mobile backend and real-time communication patterns

The salary for this position ranges from $270,000 to $290,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
