PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Director of Clinical Research at ChristianCare’s Research Institute (iREACH) is part of a team leading the ongoing transformation of research across the enterprise, while fostering new and sustaining existing research collaborations and partnerships. This position will provide scientific expertise and administrative oversite for the design, planning and dissemination of a collaborative research portfolio that bridges clinical, community and academic sectors. The Director of Clinical Research will manage a team of data analysts’, system engineers, biostatisticians, and Research Scientists within the Research Institute as well as within the context of the NIGMS-funded Delaware’s ACCEL Center for Translational Research (DE-CTR). In the CTR arena, the Director of Clinical Research will oversee the Biostatistical and Epidemiologic Research Design (BERD) Core leveraging resources across all ACCEL Institutions to support research addressing critical health needs in Delaware. This position will represent ChristianaCare on the Data Science Core of the Delaware IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (DE-INBRE) which is supported by NIH NIGM funding.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for oversight of the Research Institutes portfolio of research projects and related programs ensuring that all research is scientifically rigorous, clinically relevant, ethically sound and meet all institutional, state and federal rules, policies, and regulations.
Provides high level oversight of study designs, protocols, and statistical analyses to ensure scientific integrity and clinical relevance across all iREACH research projects.
Ensure all research activities comply with IRB, HIPAA, and FDA regulations. Oversee the development of Data Safety Monitoring Plans (DSMP), Data Use Agreements (DUAs), and coordinated regulatory submission for multiple institutions to ensure data privacy and security.
Serves as the Research Institutes liaison with ChristianaCare’s Center for Strategic Information Management (CSIM) and responsible for ensuring the Research Institutes data processes, procedures, and permissions are met pre and post EPIC implementation.
Accountable for ensuring ChrisitanaCare’s Research Institute is adhering to NIH Data Management and Sharing (DSM) Policy for all research that is supported by NIH and meets the conditions. Leads efforts with DE- CTR and DE-INBRE partner institutions and research collaborators to develop, standardize and share best practices.
Manages and provides direct supervision to a multidisciplinary team of system engineers, data analysts, biostatisticians and research scientists, fostering a culture of accountability and professional excellence.
Serve as a primary mentor for clinical and junior investigators, providing expert guidance on grant development, study design, data evaluation, interpretation and dissemination of findings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, or other healthcare disciplines required.
MD, DO, RN with an advanced degree (MPH or PhD) in Epidemiology, Public Health, or Medical Informatics highly desired.
A distinguished publication record and a demonstrated history of securing and managing significant research grants required.
5+ years of leading and managing complex federally funded grants and research programs required.
5+ years of managing technical teams with proven track record of hitting hard deadlines and managing competing priorities required.
Proven success in mentoring junior faculty or clinical investigators through the research lifecycle, from protocol development to publication required.
Experience navigating the complexities of multi-institutional data sharing, IRB coordination, and collaborative analysis required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced knowledge of health data cloud computing and data standards such FHIR, to ensure data integrity and compatibility across diverse research environments.
Strong command of statistical software (SAS, R, or Python) and deep familiarity with healthcare data structures (ICD-10, CPT, LOINC).
Deep understanding of federal research requirements and regulations including human subject research.
Exceptionally strong written and verbal skills.
Ability to promote and encourage diversity of thought.
Adept at leading in a highly complex, matrixed healthcare environment.
