Position Summary

The Director, Category Growth Marketing is responsible for defining and executing the long-term growth strategy for key business categories, driving sustainable revenue growth, customer acquisition, retention, and market expansion. This leader will oversee category marketing investments, lead high-impact growth initiatives, and partner closely with Product, Sales, Merchandising, Finance, Analytics, and Executive Leadership teams to accelerate business performance.

The ideal candidate combines strategic vision, commercial acumen, customer-centric thinking, and data-driven decision-making to identify growth opportunities and build scalable marketing programs that deliver measurable business results.


Key Responsibilities

Category Growth Strategy & Business Leadership

  • Develop and own the multi-year growth strategy for priority categories, aligned with overall business goals.
  • Drive category revenue, profitability, customer growth, and market share expansion.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities, customer trends, and competitive dynamics to shape growth priorities.
  • Establish category growth roadmaps and investment strategies that support short-term performance and long-term business objectives.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on category growth opportunities and risks.

Revenue & Demand Generation

  • Lead integrated growth marketing strategies across acquisition, engagement, retention, loyalty, and lifecycle programs.
  • Partner with channel marketing teams to optimize investments across digital, social, CRM, partnerships, content, and offline channels.
  • Drive category-specific demand generation initiatives to increase customer adoption, repeat purchase behavior, and customer lifetime value.
  • Ensure effective allocation of marketing budgets to maximize ROI and business impact.

Customer & Market Insights

  • Champion customer-centric decision-making through deep understanding of customer behaviors, motivations, and purchasing patterns.
  • Leverage data analytics, market research, and customer insights to identify growth opportunities.
  • Translate insights into category strategies, go-to-market plans, and marketing initiatives.
  • Monitor competitive trends and industry developments to maintain category leadership.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with Product, Commercial, Merchandising, Operations, Analytics, Finance, and Sales leaders to align category growth initiatives.
  • Influence executive stakeholders and build organizational alignment around strategic priorities.
  • Lead cross-functional growth programs from ideation through execution and measurement.
  • Support product launches, category expansions, seasonal campaigns, and strategic business initiatives.

Performance Management & Optimization

  • Establish and manage category performance frameworks, KPIs, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Drive a culture of experimentation through testing, optimization, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor business performance and proactively identify opportunities for acceleration and risk mitigation.
  • Present business reviews, growth insights, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing category growth marketing team.
  • Coach team members on strategic thinking, analytical problem-solving, and execution excellence.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and customer obsession.
  • Establish organizational capabilities that support future growth objectives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Economics, Analytics, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Growth Marketing, Category Management, Product Marketing, Commercial Strategy, E-commerce, or related disciplines.
  • 5+ years of experience leading high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success driving significant revenue growth and business impact through strategic marketing initiatives.
  • Strong experience developing growth strategies and executing large-scale marketing programs.
  • Expertise in using data and analytics to drive decision-making and business performance.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and executive communication skills.

Preferred

  • MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience within e-commerce, marketplace, retail, technology, consumer products, or high-growth environments.
  • Experience managing multimillion-dollar marketing budgets.
  • Strong knowledge of customer acquisition, CRM, lifecycle marketing, loyalty, and retention programs.
  • Familiarity with advanced analytics tools such as SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Adobe Analytics, or Google Analytics.
