As Director of Platform Engineering, you’ll shape the future of trading infrastructure for Interest Rate Derivatives, Commodities, and Market Data. This role offers the opportunity to lead strategic technology initiatives that directly impact trading performance, regulatory compliance, and platform scalability.

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Director of Platform Engineering will lead a team of ~10 platform and data engineers responsible for building and maintaining the technology platforms that support Commercial products, specifically Interest Rate Derivatives, Commodities, and Market Data. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong people leadership, and the ability to align engineering execution with business strategy.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead platform engineering teams supporting interest rate derivatives, commodities, and market data.
  • Drive modernization of legacy systems into cloud-native, scalable platforms with near-zero downtime expectations.
  • Implement modern engineering practices including CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Ensure platform resiliency and performance to meet near 100% uptime expectations.
  • Collaborate with business, risk, compliance, and operations teams to deliver regulatory-compliant solutions.
  • Manage talent development, performance reviews, and succession planning.
  • Manage vendor relationships.
  • Execute insourcing strategies and knowledge transfer plans.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and coach employees to meet organizational needs while supporting personal development.
  • Actively participate in hiring experienced and college graduate level employees.
  • Solicit feedback from team members and provide timely performance feedback.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to identify and resolve performance barriers.
  • Identify organizational gaps and propose effective solutions.
  • Provide insight on best practices and future direction of platform engineering.
  • Remove organizational impediments including cultural and logistical challenges.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration across the organization.
  • Foster self-organization, learning, and growth across teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement in processes, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Build a trusting and safe environment for issue resolution and innovation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Includes performance management, investment in people growth, coaching, disciplinary activities, succession planning, and employee recognition.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • 6–10 years of combined people leadership and hands-on experience in platform engineering or related field.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or equivalent experience.
  • Passion for mentoring and leading engineering teams.
  • Strong leadership presence and credibility across technical and business audiences.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to simplify complex topics.
  • Experience removing team and organizational impediments and fostering cross-functional collaboration.
  • Deep understanding of software development lifecycle disciplines.
  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of Agile principles and ability to lead self-organizing teams.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport across diverse teams.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with Interest Rate Derivatives Trading, Commodities Trading, and Market Data platforms.
