Summary Generated by Built In

We are the leading provider of professional services to the middle market globally, our purpose is to instill confidence in a world of change, empowering our clients and people to realize their full potential. Our exceptional people are the key to our unrivaled, culture and talent experience and our ability to be compelling to our clients. You’ll find an environment that inspires and empowers you to thrive both personally and professionally. There’s no one like you and that’s why there’s nowhere like RSM.

RSM Consulting is seeking a Director to serve as Business Transformation Lead on large, integrated Finance, Operations, and technology transformations. Our Intelligent Enterprise portfolio helps clients modernize their operating models and activate the value of ERP, cloud, data, AI, and automation across Finance and Technology.

This is the pivotal business-side leadership role on the transformation. You will own how the client operates differently once the modernized platform is live. You are not the program manager or solution architect. You are accountable for the future-state operating model, end-to-end processes, human experience, adoption, and measurable business value enabled by the technology investment. Success is measured by one question: Did the business change successfully?

You will typically focus on one major transformation at a time, working as a peer alongside executive sponsors, transformation leadership, and platform and delivery teams.

Responsibilities

Operating Model and End-to-End Process Design

  • Own the design and operationalization of the future-state operating model across Finance, Operations, Technology, and the shared data and reporting environment.
  • Lead end-to-end process and capability design across core cycles affected by ERP modernization, cloud, data, AI, and automation.
  • Define future-state roles, skills, decision rights, controls, and governance, including which decisions become automated, which remain human, and how exceptions are managed.
  • Establish sustainable business ownership for data, processes, controls, and outcomes after implementation.
  • Maintain traceability from the client’s business drivers through operating-model changes, requirements, backlog priorities, adoption outcomes, benefits, and value delivered.

Human-Centered Design

  • Own human-centered design as a funded, staffed, and measured transformation workstream from mobilization.
  • Use personas, jobs-to-be-done, journey maps, and user research to shape requirements before solutions are built.
  • Prototype and test proposed experiences with real users, incorporating feedback into process, product, and technology decisions.
  • Use demonstrations of modern ERP, cloud, data, AI, and automation capabilities to build executive and user confidence early.
  • Ensure design findings materially influence scope, priorities, and decisions, including when an AI or automation use case is not appropriate for the client’s maturity or risk tolerance.

Organizational Change Management and Adoption

  • Own organizational change management as a funded and measured workstream, including leadership alignment, sponsorship, stakeholder engagement, communications, resistance management, training, and readiness.
  • Baseline adoption targets and tie them directly to benefits realization, including system usage, process compliance, automation acceptance, exception volumes, and reporting adoption.
  • Define how adoption will be measured before implementation and use those measures to guide design and delivery decisions.
  • Lead the behavioral and organizational changes required to reduce manual work, increase trust in shared data, and enable effective use of automated and AI-assisted processes.

Product Backlog and Value Ownership

  • Own the integrity of the business-side product backlog and connect business drivers to requirements, capabilities, features, adoption outcomes, benefits, and measurable value.
  • Lead backlog refinement and prioritization with client Product Owners and business and technology stakeholders.
  • Participate in feature reviews, system demonstrations, increment planning, and retrospectives to assess whether the solution changes how the business operates.
  • Ensure business outcomes and benefits are tracked alongside technical and delivery milestones.
  • Balance transformation objectives with delivery realities, business readiness, risk, and value.

Transformation Leadership and Executive Confidence

  • Recognize when an expanding ERP or technology implementation has become a broader business transformation and help the client reframe its scope, governance, workstreams, and measures of success.
  • Serve as the bridge between technical delivery and executive confidence, bringing sufficient knowledge of ERP, cloud, data, and AI to shape requirements and challenge decisions without acting as the solution architect.
  • Build trusted relationships with CFOs, CIOs, and executive sponsors, presenting clear evidence of business change, adoption, risk, and value.
  • Escalate issues early with a recommended action rather than providing status alone, particularly when scope or design decisions could result in technology deployment without meaningful operating-model change.
  • Navigate competing stakeholder priorities, third-party and systems-integrator challenges, legacy-process attachment, readiness concerns, and key-person risk.

Commercial, Practice, and People Leadership

  • Apply strong commercial judgment to workstream planning, engagement economics, resource needs, change control, scope management, and margin protection.
  • Identify changes in scope early, articulate their business and delivery impact, and support timely commercial conversations with clients.
  • Help shape pursuits, proposals, transformation roadmaps, workstream sizing, and value cases before mobilization.
  • Support account growth by identifying additional opportunities and demonstrating measurable client value.
  • Contribute to RSM’s transformation methods, tools, and reusable intellectual property across operating-model design, human-centered design, product ownership, and adoption measurement.
  • Mentor and develop managers and senior associates working across process design, product, change, and human-centered design workstreams.

Boundaries of the Role

You own the future-state operating model, end-to-end process design, business capabilities, roles, decision rights, jobs-to-be-done, personas, journey maps, business requirements, value mapping, business-side backlog integrity, stakeholder alignment, change strategy, communications, training strategy, readiness, adoption measurement, and benefits traceability.

You do not own the integrated program plan, master resource plan, solution architecture, integrations, technical build quality, environments, deployment, or cutover execution. You partner closely with the leaders accountable for those areas and are expected to identify gaps, challenge decisions, and escalate risks when they threaten business outcomes, adoption, or value.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 10+ years of consulting or advisory experience, including significant responsibility for business-side transformation on large enterprise technology programs.
  • Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end process, operating-model, role, and decision-rights design in a modernized ERP environment.
  • Experience leading Finance- or Technology-focused transformations involving ERP, cloud, data, AI, automation, or related enterprise platforms.
  • Demonstrated ownership of organizational change management and adoption as funded workstreams, with baselined targets tied to benefits realization.
  • Experience applying human-centered design methods, including personas, journey maps, prototyping, and testing with users before build.
  • Experience owning or shaping a product backlog and connecting business drivers to requirements, priorities, adoption, benefits, and value.
  • Ability to recognize when a technology implementation has become a broader transformation and reframe the work with the client.
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to hold candid, evidence-based conversations with CFOs, CIOs, and other C-suite sponsors.
  • Practical understanding of ERP, cloud, data, and AI capabilities sufficient to shape requirements and challenge solution design.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen, including engagement economics, scope management, change control, and margin awareness.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed, generally up to 50%, with in-person presence on large or sensitive programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA and/or master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Operations, Information Systems, Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience leading transformations that expanded from technology implementation into broader process, organization, product, and adoption programs.
  • Experience designing modern operating models for Finance, Technology, supply chain, operations, or shared-services functions.
  • Experience establishing AI and automation governance from a business-process, risk, and controls perspective.
  • Experience working in Agile or scaled-Agile delivery environments.
  • Change management certification such as Prosci or ADKAR; design-thinking or service-design credentials; or SAFe Agilist, PMI-ACP, Product Owner, or Scrum certification.
