POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director, Business Systems is responsible for strategic leadership, operational oversight, and continuous optimization of revenue cycle technology platforms across the organization. This role oversees enterprise support and enhancement of core EMR systems including Meditech, Cerner, and MedHost, as well as integrations and partnerships with key revenue cycle vendors including R1 and Parallon.
The Director partners closely with Revenue Cycle Operations, Clinical Leadership, Finance, and external vendors to ensure system stability, performance, and alignment with organizational financial and operational goals. This position leads high-performing teams responsible for system support, implementations, optimization initiatives, and regulatory compliance across patient access, billing, and patient accounting functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Leadership & Strategy:
· Provides strategic direction for revenue cycle IT platforms, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial performance targets.
· Leads and develops high-performing teams including managers, analysts, and technical resources supporting revenue cycle applications.
· Defines and executes roadmap for system enhancements, upgrades, and optimization initiatives across Meditech, Cerner, and MedHost platforms.
· Establishes governance processes for prioritization, demand management, and change control.
Operational Oversight:
· Ensures system availability, performance, and service levels meet defined SLAs.
· Leads problem management and root cause analysis for system issues and revenue-impacting events.
Vendor & Partner Management:
· Provides executive oversight and relationship management for vendors including R1, Parallon, Solventum, and Quanum.
· Ensures vendor performance aligns with contractual obligations, SLAs, and business outcomes.
· Coordinates joint initiatives, system changes, and optimization efforts with external partners.
Revenue Cycle Optimization:
· Partners with Revenue Cycle Operations leadership to identify opportunities for process improvement and technology enablement.
· Drives initiatives to enhance patient access workflows, reduce denials, improve cash collections, and optimize billing processes.
· Supports regulatory compliance, payer requirements, and system updates impacting revenue cycle workflows.
Project & Program Delivery:
· Oversees large-scale initiatives including system implementations, upgrades, conversions, and acquisitions.
· Ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business value expectations.
· Sponsors go-live readiness, post-go-live stabilization, and continuous improvement efforts.
Governance & Compliance:
· Ensures adherence to organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.
· Maintains documentation for workflows, system configurations, and support processes.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
Qualifications:
· 8–12+ years of leadership experience managing teams and large-scale system portfolios
· 5+ years of progressive experience in revenue cycle systems, with a strong focus on healthcare IT.
· Experience working with outsourced or vendor-supported revenue cycle solutions, such as R1, Parallon, Solventum, or Quanum.
· Proven ability to lead enterprise-wide initiatives and cross-functional collaboration.
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field required.
· Master’s degree, such as MBA, MHA, or related field, preferred.
Knowledge:
· Deep understanding of healthcare revenue cycle operations, including patient access, billing, coding, and collections.
· Knowledge of EMR system architecture, integrations, and revenue cycle workflows.
· Familiarity with regulatory requirements, including CMS and payer rules, impacting revenue cycle technology.
· Understanding of vendor-managed service models and offshore/onshore delivery structures.
Skills:
