What you will do:
You will shape Johnson Controls’ global Digital & Controls strategy, partnering closely with the Global Enterprise Strategy team and senior leaders across our Digital and Controls product organizations. This role will identify emerging technology shifts, define strategic growth pathways, and lead high-impact initiatives, including portfolio strategy, ecosystem partnerships, and M&A, to strengthen JCI’s position as the leader in smart, connected, and autonomous building solutions.
How you will do it:
Lead Digital & Controls Market Intelligence
Conduct deep market, technology, and competitive analysis across building automation systems, IoT platforms, AI/ML, and edge-to-cloud architectures to inform strategic priorities and identify the highest-value growth opportunities.
Shape Portfolio and Product Strategy
Partner with Digital and Controls product leadership to define strategic roadmaps, prioritize investments, and align product development with customer needs, regulatory trends, and emerging technology inflection points.
Support M&A and Partnership Roadmap
Drive sourcing, evaluation, and strategic assessment of acquisition targets and ecosystem partners, including software, controls, and AI/analytics companies, to inform business development priorities and accelerate JCI’s digital transformation.
Embed Voice of Customer and Voice of Field
Engage with customers, channel partners, and JCI sales and field teams to understand evolving requirements, validate strategic hypotheses, and translate insights into actionable recommendations that strengthen JCI’s competitive differentiation.
Define Growth and Go-to-Market Strategies
Collaborate with business and regional leadership to develop GTM models, commercial plays, and competitive positioning for new and existing digital and controls offerings, ensuring alignment with JCI’s enterprise strategy.
What we look for:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, Mathematics, Business, or related field; Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from an accredited college, preferred in a related discipline
7+ years of experience in strategic development, including at least 2-3 years in a top-tier strategy consulting firm
Experience operating in complex, matrixed organizations; in‑house corporate experience is a plus
Demonstrated ability to deliver outcomes in ambiguous, cross‑functional environments where influence matters more than authority
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and operate with a high degree of ownership
Skilled at prioritizing and navigating tradeoffs in analytically rigorous, fast‑paced environments
Proactive, collaborative, and hands‑on problem‑solver with strong critical‑thinking skills
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with emphasis on content development and executive‑ready storytelling
Intellectually curious, open‑minded, and adaptable in dynamic contexts
NOTE: This is a hybrid position considering candidates who reside in the Milwaukee, Chicago, Boston, or New York City metro areas.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $158,000 -$237,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
