Directly: Assigned Business Development Managers, Manager Advanced Designs and Technology, and Business Development Analysts
Indirectly: Capture team when assigned
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead Austal USA’s business development efforts; responsible for identifying and winning opportunities to grow the company
- Develop, lead, and execute customer engagement strategy
- Execute Austal USA Business Development Process to win new work through development of winning capture strategies & proposals
- Responsible for win theme development, solutions development, competitive assessments, pricing strategy recommendations (based on a price to win and other competitive assessments), action plans and execution plans for assigned opportunities
- Obtain customer insights & hot buttons, lead black hat analyses to maintain competitor intelligence & industry trends
- Develop & execute customer, capture, & technical strategies for leading opportunities toward high win probability
- Develop teaming plans to include executing teaming agreements & partnering strategies
- Provide input to VP, BD & EA and Dir, Strategy on strategic vision, investor partnerships, and Mergers & Acquisitions
- Develop and maintain business intelligence process and database to assess competition and support development of capture plans and win strategies
- Develop and execute Capture budget to support capture and proposal operations
- Ensure regular reconciliation of budget is accomplished and funds are spent effectively
- Manage & reconcile all hours billed to capture efforts
- Establish and execute capture and proposal writing training program
- Support Austal USA trade show and media engagement efforts
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
- 10 years’ business development experience in the DoD market, to include leading and supporting capture efforts for large programs
- Thorough understanding of the capture process
- Understanding of DoD acquisition process as related to DoN ship procurement
- Significant Navy or Marine Corps experience and extensive knowledge of the DoD and Navy budget processes
- Experience preparing winning proposals and leading capture efforts for shipbuilding programs; formal proposal training desired
- Familiar with FAR/DFAR
- Experience with Foreign Military Sales (FMS)
- Ability to lead and manage in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
- Proven ability to set tasks for self and others
- Ability to listen to staff and customers and act appropriately
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contracts, contract specifications, and major equipment specifications
DESIRED:
- Experience managing budgets ($3-5M)
- Experience in Navy shipbuilding acquisition
TOOLS: Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
