ABOUT THE JOB

The Director of Business Development is responsible for driving strategic sales growth within the municipal water and wastewater market. This leadership role develops and executes business development strategies to expand market share, cultivate long-term relationships with municipalities, engineering consultants, contractors, and channel partners, and position the company as a trusted provider of innovative water treatment equipment solutions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promoting and managing all sales activities for WaterSurplus solutions and equipment in the municipal and public utilities market in North America.
  • Organize and participate in all business development activities (sales calls, lunch & learns, congresses, conferences, trade shows, etc.).
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal utility directors, public works officials, consulting engineers, EPC firms, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Consult and negotiate with clients to prepare project specifications, generate proposals, lead time and pricing along with customer communications.
  • Direct, coordinate, and participate with application engineering in the development and generation of sales proposals, budgets, cost estimates, bids, and contracts for new and existing customers.
  • Build and maintain strong business relationships with customers at various levels, as well as with key strategic suppliers and partners.
  • Inform the company of all activities, opportunities, issues and project deadlines.
  • Maintain and update sales database (WinMan, ) and prepare sales forecasts.
  • Analyze and actively communicate information about the market (competition, qualitative and quantitative market analysis).
  • Collaborate with operations and production teams to review project specifications, participate in (and may coordinate) kickoff meetings, support change order communications, and maintain ongoing customer engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development of sales tools and overall sales strategy.
  • Support the commercialization efforts for the company’s new technology.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of sales experience in the municipal water and wastewater treatment industry.
  • Proven success selling capital equipment, treatment systems, or process technologies to municipal utilities.
  • Established network of municipal utility leaders, consulting engineers, and contractors.
  • Strong knowledge of municipal water and wastewater treatment processes, industry standards, and regulatory environments.
  • Technical aptitude to understand and communicate equipment specifications, treatment technologies, and solution benefits; process design engineering experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence customers and collaborate across teams.
  • Demonstrated sales competencies in prospecting, account management, contract negotiations, and growing long-term customer relationships.
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and results-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Knowledge of municipal water products, technologies, and services preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near and far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

TRAVEL:

50-75% local and air travel (10-15 days per month)

COMPENSATION: $150k-180k + Commission
