PRODUCT & POSITION OVERVIEW

Dow Jones Risk Journal (https://www.dowjones.com/business-intelligence/risk/products/risk-journal/) is a newly released premium news and insights solution specifically designed for risk and compliance professionals, as well as senior leaders responsible for risk mitigation across their organizations. Launched in April 2025 by Dow Jones, a global leader in business information, it provides trusted news and actionable intelligence across 16 key risk areas, including sanctions, anti-corruption, financial crime, cybersecurity, regulatory intelligence, and geopolitical, economic, and supply chain risks.

The platform offers personalized news feeds, real-time alerts, in-depth analysis from expert journalists and legal contributors, and access to a community feature that connects users with industry leaders and exclusive events. Dow Jones Risk Journal aims to empower decision-makers to effectively monitor news, anticipate risks, ensure compliance, and make informed strategic business decisions in an increasingly complex and evolving global landscape.

We have created a new Director of Business Management & Commercial Strategy, Risk Journal position. Based in New York and reporting to the Managing Editor, Risk Journal, this Director will have full responsibility for commercial strategy and execution, globally. This leader will support and influence multi-disciplined teams to drive commercial success and develop a global strategy that leverages Dow Jones capabilities to address customer needs and execute on our company's mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proposition Strategy & Vision: Define and articulate a compelling, market-leading proposition for Dow Jones Risk Journal, aligning with broader Dow Jones Risk & Compliance business objectives. Develop a clear vision for the future evolution of the product, identifying new opportunities and areas for innovation.

  • Market & Customer Insight: Lead in-depth market research, competitive analysis, and customer insight gathering to deeply understand the needs, challenges, and evolving landscape of risk and compliance professionals. Translate these insights into actionable product and proposition improvements.

  • Product Roadmap & Development: Collaborate closely with Product Management, Technology, and Editorial teams to translate proposition strategy into a detailed product roadmap. Influence the prioritization, development and testing of new features, content, and functionalities that enhance the value proposition of Risk Journal.

  • Go-to-Market Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive go-to-market strategies for new propositions and product enhancements. Partner with Marketing, Sales, and Client Success teams to ensure effective launch, positioning, and adoption in target markets. 

  • Commercial Performance: Own the commercial performance of the Risk Journal proposition, monitoring key metrics such as subscriber acquisition, engagement, retention, and revenue. Identify and implement strategies to drive growth and optimize profitability.

  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders across Editorial, Product, Technology, Sales, Marketing, and Legal to ensure alignment and successful execution of the proposition strategy.

  • Thought Leadership: Act as an internal and external thought leader on risk and compliance trends, contributing to industry discussions and positioning Dow Jones Risk Journal as a leading voice in the market.

  • Team Leadership: While this role may not directly manage a large team, it requires strong leadership and influencing skills to guide cross-functional teams and potentially build out a dedicated proposition function for Risk Journal as the business scales.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Willingness to work in our midtown Manhattan office at least 3 days every week

  • 10+ years of experience in proposition development, product management, and/or general management within a subscription-based information services, digital media, or B2B software business, ideally with exposure to news, financial services, risk, and/or compliance

  • Proven focus on usability and intuitive digital design

  • Demonstrable track record of developing and launching successful propositions that have driven significant business growth

  • Deep understanding of the risk and compliance landscape, including financial crime, sanctions, third-party risk, regulatory intelligence, and geopolitical risks

  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with experience translating complex market dynamics into clear, actionable plans

  • Strong analytical capabilities with experience using data and insights to inform decisions and measure performance

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with experience effectively influencing and engaging senior stakeholders across an organization

  • Proven success working in a fast-paced, matrixed environment

  • Experience with Agile methodologies and working closely with product and engineering teams is a plus

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred

Pay Range: $150,000 - $180,000
