Job Profile Summary:
The Director of Beef Procurement leads the sourcing and purchasing strategy for beef products across the region(s) for Buckhead and Newport Meat & Seafood operations. This role is responsible for managing supplier relationships, negotiating pricing and terms, overseeing contract procurement execution, and driving cost efficiencies through strategic procurement practices. The position plays a critical role in ensuring supply reliability, quality standards, and competitive pricing to support enterprise-wide business goals.
Job Summary:
This role oversees and executes the region(s) beef procurement strategy for Buckhead | Newport Meat & Seafood. By leveraging the combined scale and purchasing power of BH | NP, the Director aims to reduce costs, enhance profitability, and support growth through data-driven sourcing decisions. Key responsibilities include regional procurement of boxed beef, market analysis, supplier performance, earned income generation, and collaboration with sales, supply chain, and other cross-functional teams. The Director is accountable for delivering category P&L performance, aligning assortments to market conditions, and driving margin expansion through smarter buying and operational integration.
Responsibilities:
- To develop and execute a plan to procure boxed beef regionally for Buckhead | Newport sites
- Leverage BH | NP volume together for lowest possible purchase cost.
- Leverage internal and external resources (market research, supplier data) to understand customer and market trends
- Generate earned income through market buys that will increase total margin
- Drive profitable beef sales through; better information sharing, response to market trends, market timing, and improved costs.
- Proactively update core beef assortments to reflect changes in market dynamics
- Own P&L planning and results for Beef category w/in region(s)
- Communicate to local sales teams market intelligence and help set local and contract pricing accordingly
- Train BH | NP personnel that will enable them to more effectively sell the boxed beef category
- Integrate large program/contract customer requirements with our beef procurement strategy
- Work effectively with internal departments such as Supply Chain, Pricing, Transportation, Sourcing, GSC Beef Procurement team to resolve issues and create competitive advantage
Qualifications:
Education
- Minimum undergraduate degree or equivalent related industry experience
Experience
- Minimum 7-10 years of commodity procurement experience with large foodservice, retail, or specialty distribution
Professional Skills:
- Must posses and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to apply in communications with business partners, the field, and internal departments
- Analytical thinker who can draw sound business conclusions from multiple sources of information
- Ability to plan, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Performs independently as well in a team environment
- Some travel (approx. 10-15% or higher) required for supplier visits
- Proven ability to manage complex projects that span across functions
- Must be effective at communication skills
- Must possess deep industry knowledge for beef markets cause and effect
